OBITUARY: EURE - Bessie Piland Rountree, 95, of Highway 158 West, died Jan. 21, 2001, in Downeast Health and Rehab.
A native of Gates County, she was a member of Eure Christian Church and a member of the Victory Chapter No. 16 OES. She was the daughter of the late William Benjamin and Alice Piland. She was the widow of Mills Howell and of Herbert Rountree.
Survivors include a daughter, Opal Howell of Eure; a son, Gene Douglas Howell of Virginia Beach; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Eaton of Raleigh; a sister, Helen Howell of Eure; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in Harrell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tommy Tripp. Burial will be in the Howell Family Cemetery.
