She was born in Newport on January 7, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Lottie (Thomas) Young. Cecile worked as a nurse’s aid at Bel-Aire Nursing Home. She was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary and she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, puzzles, growing flowers and plants.
On August 14, 1964 Cecile married Clarence E. Maker, who survives her. She is also survived by a daughter, Susan Powell and her husband Tim of Barton , a granddaughter Kayla Bernier of Barton, her brother, Leslie Kennison of Newport, her sister, Opel Judd of Rutland, her sister-in-law, Claire Young of Newport, a foster son Dennis Fields of New Hampshire, and a foster daughter Albena Flanders, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Young, Leland Kennison and Robert Thomas.
Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Monday July 24, 2006 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport,(formerly Bay Street) where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday July 26, 2006 with the Rev. Yvon Royer officiating.
Should friends desire, contributions in Cecile’s memory may be made to the Orleans-Essex VNA & Hospice, 46 Lakemont Road, Newport, VT 05855.

She was born October 19, 1924 in Richford, VT, the daughter of Charles and Lottie (Thomas) Young. She was schooled in Richford and Newport, VT, and had worked at Weyerhaueser in Hancock for 20 years. Opal was an avid baker and loved her flowers, gardening, and sewing.
She is survived by her 6 daughters:Linda Wood, Carol Twitchell and Gloria Steventon of Rochester, Judy Desroches of Irasburg, Barbara Wood of Pownal and Mary Kresconko of Rutland; brother, Leslie Kennison of Newport; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at the Rochester Federated Church with Rev. Gregory Homan officiating.
A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery in Rochester. There are no calling hours.

He is survived by his daughter Susan Powell of Asheville, North Carolina, by his granddaughter Kayla Bernier also of Asheville, North Carolina, his foster son Dennis Fields State Representative of Sanbornton, NH, and by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on May 24, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the East Haven Cemetery, East Haven, VT with full military honors. | Obituary | Sep 7, 2020 | OBITUARY: Loving Mom, Grandmother and Great Mama, Joan L. McDonald, 81 of Derby, Vermont passed away peacefully at Maple Lane Nursing Home on the early morning of Saturday, September 5, 2020. Joan was born on Sunday, July 16, 1939 in Barre, VT to the late Weltha Magoon and Forest Ormsbee.
Joan spent her childhood years in Barre and waitressed in her younger days. She met her first love, Leland Kennison and they married on October 17, 1957 and he predeceased in November of 1971. Joan worked at Slalom and Bogner of America in Newport for years sewing and mending clothes. She knitted hats and mittens and donated to local elementary schools and Ronald McDonald Foundation for children. She also made teddy-bear outfits for the Sheriff’s department. Joan met her second love, Kenneth McDonald and they married on May 28, 1982 and he predeceased in October of 2017.
She is survived by her children, Dana Kennison of Derby, Kim Dupuis and her husband Raymond of Irasburg, Tracy Costa and her husband Dave of Island Pond, also by her grandchildren Tina Royer and her husband Derek of Newport Center, Michelle Aiken and her husband James of Derby, Amanda Hastings, of Derby, David Hicks of Michigan, Shaun Hastings of Derby, and Eric Dupuis and his wife Sarah of Irasburg, Dominic Costa of Newport, Joshua Kuhaneck of Island Pond and by her great-grandchildren, Kristopher Aiken, Jayden Aiken, Henry Bean, Landen Dupuis, Noah Dupuis, Harper Dupuis, Avery Royer, Kensi Royer, Bentley Cartee and Adalynn Jones. She is also survived her brother, Kenneth and his wife, Rose Ormsbee of Paris, Texas, Francis and his wife, Millie of Newport, and Janice and her husband, Earl Heath of Montgomery, Alabama and her very special brother in law, Gary Carter, of Plainfield, Vermont. Gary Carter always took the ladies out for special Sunday lunch. Joan is predeceased by her sister in law, Opal Judd and special niece, Marilyn Nadeau. She is predeceased by her parents, Weltha Magoon and Forest Ormsbee, her brothers, Elroy Davio, Robert Davio, Elwood Davio and her sister, Alma Blay. Joan is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed her knitting, crocheting, spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Her funeral services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 10:30am at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport with services held by Chaplin Michel “Mickey” Richards. Donations in memorial can be made to Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 37 Elmwood Avenue, Burlington, Vermont 05401. Please follow CDC Guidelines and please wear a mask.
