She was born Nov. 17, 1952, to the late H.N. “Foxy” Stephenson and Nellie Parker Stephenson.

Marilyn graduated from Weldon High School and attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. Soon after her graduation, she obtained a teaching position at Squire School in Gaston. After a few years she decided teaching was not for her and moved to Durham where she made her career as the assistant to the Dean of Political Science at Duke University. Volunteering and making a difference in people’s lives was important to Marilyn and it showed through her dedication to the Durham Civitan Club and other volunteer organizations. Marilyn loved the beach, beach music, cheering on the Blue Devils and her beloved cats. She was her daddy’s girl and loved being around her family. She was a friend to all and will be remembered by her cheerful smile and kind, positive spirit.

She is survived by her brother, Greg Stephenson of Weldon; her sister-in-law, Sandra Stephenson of Roanoke Rapids; and her nieces, Lauren and Meredith Stephenson.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the Ahoskie Cemetery, with Dr. Chet Rains officiating.

Greg is survived by his wife, Janet Banks Stephenson; two sons, Gregory Paul Stephenson Jr., and Patrick Ray Stephenson; a brother, Jeffrey Stephenson of Frankfurt, Germany; and two sisters, Lesley Brague of Providence, R.I., and Kristine Gray of Greensboro; nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends and numerous train enthusiasts.

Mrs. Taylor was born January 24, 1932 to the late Sornie and Aurelia Rountree in Gates County, N.C. She retired from T.R.T.-H.R.T. after many years of dedicated service. Mrs. Taylor was always active in her community. She was a longtime member of Bayside Baptist Church, the MI Hummel Club, and the Eastern Star Bayside Chapter 181. Some of her greatest joys were spending time in her garden looking over her numerous rose bushes, playing the organ, and spending time with her family. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish her memory are: two sons, Thomas Taylor and wife Paula, Linwood Taylor and wife Shawna; three daughters, Patricia Watkins and husband David, Linda Roughton and husband Sid, Judith Saunders and husband Phil; two brothers, Robert Rountree, and Herbert Rountree, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James D. Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. ObituaryOct 2, 2015  OBITUARY: GATESVILLE - Herbert Delano Rountree, 82, of 562 NC Hwy 37 South, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.
Mr. Rountree was born in Gates County on July 28, 1933, and was the last surviving of 13 children born to the late Sornie Ralph, Sr. and Aurelia Stallings Rountree. Retired as the Senior Pulp Mill Foreman with Union Camp Corp. in Franklin, VA after 40 years of employment, he was a member and deacon of Gatesville Baptist Church, and a member and past president of the Gatesville Ruritan Club. Mr. Rountree had served his country with the US Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his son, Devitt Allan Rountree, and by a granddaughter, Samantha Terry.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Campbell Rountree; his daughter, Jeanette R. Stallings of Gatesville; his son, Donnie Wood Rountree and wife Vickey of Baytown, TX; three grandchildren, Joshua Freeman, Cole Stallings, and Annie Terry; and two great-grandsons, Samuel and Anthony.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray Brickhouse and the Rev. Gene Asbill. A private burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Saturday, or all other times at the residence.
Flowers are welcomed, or contributions in his memory may be made to either the building fund of Gatesville Baptist Church, or to the Gates County Rescue Squad, both in Gatesville, NC 27938.
