He was born in Enosburg Falls on Aug. 20, 1935, the son of William L. Hill and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Garrow.
Lou - or Bill, as many in Enosburg knew him - graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1953. He served for four years with the U.S. Air Force, including a tour in Korea.
In 1958 he married Gwen Nash. In addition to his wife, his daughter, Lesli, and son-in-law, Rick Blount of Williston, survive him. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy and her husband Tony Logue of Vancouver, Wash; and by his brother, William L. Hill II and his wife Betty of Manchester, N.H; two nephews and numerous cousins. He also leaves his sisters-in-law and their spouses: Mary and Gene Burgess, Helen Nielson, Lillian and John Knowles and Grace and Tom Perkins; brother-in-law, Ken Nash and his wife Karin. He was predeceased by his parents and an infant daughter.
During the years that his daughter Lesli was growing up, the entire family was deeply involved with Morgan Horses and with horse shows. Lou became well know as an announcer at horse shows from New England to Texas.
Lou worked for many years in the electronics industry with several different companies. His work took him and his family from New Hampshire and Vermont to New York, Texas, New Jersey and Missouri. He and Gwen returned to Enosburg Falls in 1989 where he worked for Derringer Customs Brokers as a part-time immigration inspector for several years and for the final two years before retiring as a Law Enforcement Communications Assistant (LECA) for the United States Border Patrol. He particularly enjoyed his work with Immigration and BP.
Upon his return to Enosburg, Lou became involved with the restoration of the Opera House at Enosburg Falls and was the first Opera House administrator. He also wrote, directed and produced several musical reviews to benefit the restoration. Lou also wrote a number of reminiscences of growing up in his beloved hometown of Enosburg that were published locally.
Gwen and Lou moved to Palmetto, Fla. where they lived for five years returning to Vermont in the summer of 2004. Upon their return to Vermont they became interested in rock hounding and gold panning, and were active members of the Burlington Gem Society and the Green Mountain Prospectors of Vermont. Lou also joined the Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE), a group with which he enjoyed helping individuals start up or expand small businesses.
At his request Lou's body was donated to the University of Vermont School of Medicine. A celebration of Lou's life will be held in the fall.
Memorial gifts in his name may be made to The Friends of the Opera House at Enosburg Falls, P.O. Box 1250, Enosburg Falls, Vt. 05450, or to the Visiting Nurse Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446.

| Obituary | Mar 4, 2011 | OBITUARY: SOUTH BURLINGTON - Gwendolyn Jean Nash Hill passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2011 following a brief illness.
Her daughter and son-in-law were with her, along with the love and prayers of family and friends from around the country.
Gwen was the second youngest of eight children born to Harold E. and Katherine (Wiech) Nash in Groton, Conn. on Dec. 9, 1937. Following her father's death when she was a teen, she lived with her brother's family in New Hampshire, where she met the love of her life, Louis Hill. They married within months and enjoyed 49 years together until Lou's passing in 2005.
The Hills lived many places as Lou's work took them to New York, New Jersey, Texas and Missouri, but Vermont was where they often returned, living in Bristol and Lou's hometown, Enosburg. They retired to Florida and returned in 2004 when Lou became ill. Gwen was a proud resident of The Pines Senior Living Community since 2005, and greatly enjoyed socializing with neighbors and tending her garden there. At various times throughout her life, Gwen worked as a nurse's aide, but her greatest legacy is the beautiful patchwork of talents and gifts she shared with friends and family. Her grocery cart always included a neighbor's favorite treat and she shared the majority of her garden's bounty as well. She was a skilled seamstress, could fix just about anything, and had an uncanny knack for finding lost items and fourleaf clovers.
Gwen and Lou volunteered for the Enosburg Opera House, the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon and at the polls on election day. Gwen served as a holiday gift wrapper for HowardCenter and at Christmas took great joy in purchasing a girl's winter coat for their holiday wish list.
Gwen leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Lesli and Rick Blount of Williston; and her siblings, Mary and Gene Burgess, Helen Nielsen, Ken and Karin Nash, Lillian and John Knowles, and Grace and Tom Perkins; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Leon; and an infant daughter.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church on So. Winooski Ave, Burlington.
