Blythe was born July 25, 1933 in Randolph, Vt., where she married her husband Richard Emery Thomas on June 14, 1952. This began a 62 year adventure that included living in or traveling to all 50 states and visiting numerous countries around the world before settling in Edmond, Okla. During her early adult years she lovingly raised four children. In those years she was very active as a political volunteer and owned a Newcomers Business in Ada, Okla. Her positive energy, strong community ties, and desire to make the world a better place for others were qualities that led to a long successful career working for Oklahoma Senators Dewey F. Bartlett, Henry Bellmon, Don Nichols, and David L. Boren. Over 20 years of service, she helped accomplish many significant gains for her adopted state of Oklahoma. Blythe split her retirement between New Hampshire and Florida. She pursued her love of nature through painting and photography, researching genealogy, playing cards and doing needlework. Most of all she brought joy to her friends and family.

She is survived and deeply loved by her husband Richard, daughter Karen Hecker and husband Bill, son Douglas Thomas and wife Pat, daughter Kathy Sikes and husband Mark, and son Jeff Thomas, brother William Jamieson, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and many colleagues who were touched by her boundless love, sense of humor, practical intelligence, and motherly support. She will be greatly missed.

ObituaryDec 23, 2020  OBITUARY: Richard Emery Thomas of Edmond, Oklahoma left this life Tuesday, December 8, 2020, shortly before his 91st birthday.

Richard, Dick to friends and colleagues, was born December 12, 1929 in Laconia, NH to Everett E. and Zera M. Bean Thomas.

His early years were spent growing up on a New England farm near the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He attended school at Tilton/Northfield, where he was a star forward on the basketball team. Dick graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. and M.S in agronomy/soil science.

During his time at UNH, Dick was introduced to best friend Don Jamieson’s younger sister Blythe. “We dated that first week and fell head over heels in love.” Dick and Blythe were married on June 14, 1952, beginning a 62 year adventure that included living in or traveling to all 50 states and visiting numerous countries around the world before settling in Edmond, OK.

Richard’s career for the federal government included assignments at the Robert A. Taft Water Research Center in Cincinnati, OH and the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Center in Ada, OK. He finished his career with the EPA in Washington DC as a program scientist and program director. His love of the land, coupled with his desire to leave the world a better place led to international recognition. He was proud of his work on the Muskegon pilot project, a water resource recovery system so massive it has been seen from space. Two of Dick’s favorite memories were his assignments to India and then Israel as an advisor for water treatment projects. While in Ada, he received the Bronze Medal for Commendable Service in recognition of sustained dedication to the advancement of scientific knowledge in soil treatment technology and for personal achievement and contributions in the field. Upon retirement he received the Distinguished Career Award in recognition of significant contributions made to the understanding of land treatment of wastewater, wastewater reuse and groundwater protection. Dick is recognized by Who’s Who for his numerous publications and contributions to improve land treatment of municipal wastewater. As he would later tell his grandchildren, he invented “purple pipes”.

Dick and Blythe split their retirement between New Hampshire and Florida. In retirement his love for the planet led to designing a small dam project at the lake to help control water levels. Another favorite project each spring was setting his loon raft, to provide a proper nesting environment at the NH lake. In his later years, happy hours were spent researching his family genealogy. But his happiest times were spent with his grandchildren, whether it was teaching them to water ski, fish, hiking mountain trails, or sharing stories and thoughts on life. Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Blythe. He is survived by daughter Karen Hecker and husband Bill, son Douglas Thomas and wife Pat, daughter Kathy Sikes and husband Mark, and son Jeff Thomas, brother Earl Thomas, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, brother-in-law Bill Jamieson, nieces, nephews, and many friends who were touched by his boundless love, wonderful smile, great intelligence, and fatherly support. Recently when asked to describe his life in one word, he answered, “Fulfilled.” He spent his life dedicated to enriching the lives of those around him.

He is much loved and will be greatly missed by all. Dick will be laid to rest next to Blythe at Bayside Cemetery in New Hampshire next summer. The family invites you to share a favorite memory in the visitor’s book.

ObituaryFeb 27, 1995  OBITUARY: Marion Lucille Bordo, age 81, died Saturday morning, February 25, 1995, at her home in Riverview Apts. In Enosburg following a long illness.

Mrs. Bordo was born September 9, 1913 in Enosburg, the daughter of Lute and Flora (Garrow) Touchette.

Mrs. Bordo was a resident of Richford and Bakersfield most of her life and for the past four years made her home in Enosburg. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Winona Young Collins and Terry Collins of Essex Junction; a son and his wife, David and Donna Bordo of Richford; six grandchildren, Kathleen Casey and her husband Kevin of Milton, Kevin Collins and his wife Lynn, Brian Collins and his wife Elizabeth and Michael Collins, all of Essex Junction, Debra Bordo of Milton and David E. Bordo of Richford; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Madeline Touchette of Hyde Park and Audrey Young Montague and her husband Rupert of Bakersfield; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Hoyt Young in 19140, and her second husband, Leon Bordo in 1968; twin infant daughters in 1940; a brother, Lute Touchette in 1985 and a sister, Corine Arruda on Feb. 7, 1995.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 27, 1995, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. William Chant celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be later this spring in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield. For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478. Spears Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ObituaryMar 14, 2002  OBITUARY: GROTON -- Alice Tolles Mercier, 96, of 115 Blossom Lane, died at her residence on March 11. She was the wife of the late Romeo Mercier, who died in 1975.

Mrs. Tolles was born in Groton on July 18, 1905, daughter of the late Willard and Nellie Anderson Tolles. She grew up in Groton and was a graduate of the Groton Butler High School in 1923. She trained as a registered nurse at Rhode Island Hospital and graduated in 1926.

Mrs. Tolles worked for the State of Rhode Island for 33 years at General Hospital in Cranston, RI, in private and hospital duty, retiring in 1965.

She was married in 1955 and made her home in Cranston until 1966, then lived in Florida from 1966 to 1995, when she returrned to Groton.

She was a life member of the D.A.V., Chapter 91 Auxiliary and a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Ayer.

Mrs. Mercier is survived by a brother, Willard Tolles of Syracuse, NY; a sister, Olive Robbins of Groton; nieces Debbie Locke of Woolwich, ME, Gloria Foley of Long Beach, NY, Ramona Tolles of Groton, and Nan Quintin of Pepperell; nephews Bill Locke of Bozeman, MT, Willard Tolles of Syracuse, NY, and Harry Tolles of Reno, NV; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was the sister of the late Raymond Tolles, Henry Tolles and Eva Locke.

Funeral services will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16. Burial will be in Groton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 15, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9.

ObituaryNov 5, 2002  OBITUARY: Groton, Massachusetts - Olive Frances (Tolles) Robbins, 94, a lifelong resident of Groton, died at her home on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002.
She was born on Lowell Road in Groton on Nov. 24, 1907, the second of six children of Nellie (Anderson) and Willard Proctor Tolles.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Robbins; two sisters, Alice Mercier and Eva Locke; and three brothers, Willard, Raymond and Henry Tolles.
She is survived by a stepson, Ted Robbins and his wife, Mary, and a grandson, Todd Robbins of New Castle, New Hampshire; a granddaughter, Bonnie Vadala and her husband, John, and a great-grandson, Nikolai Vadala of Newmarket, New Hampshire; nieces Gloria Foley, Debbie Locke, Ramona Tolles and Nan Quintin; nephews Willard Tolles, William Locke and Harry Tolles; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She graduated from Fitchburg State Teachers College in 1929 and taught school for 42 years. She taught in the North Orange, Mass., school system for almost 30 years. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in North Orange and later moved to the new two-room Gale Brook School. She was also a principal in the North Orange schools. She later taught in Littleton, Mass., for 12 years. She retired from teaching in 1972.
She was affectionately known by many as "Teacher."
During her teaching years in North Orange, she boarded there and returned to the family home every weekend. She lived in several places in Groton, including the family farm on Longley Road and, since 1952, at the corner of Blossom Lane and Martin Pond Road.
She was an active member of the Groton Alliance of the First Parish Church of Groton Unitarian Universalist, and sang in the choir there for 30 years. She was also a member of the Groton Historical Society and the Groton Town Republican Committee.
A grave side service was held at on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at the Groton Cemetery, and a memorial gathering took place at the First Parish Church that evening.

He was name "Insurance Person of the Year" in 1986 from Professional Insurance Associates of Central New York. He was a member and past president of Insurance Council of Syracuse; a past Most Loyal Gander of Blue Goose International Alumni Club of Columbia University; and past president of Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi Epsilon.

Mr. Tolles is survived by his wife Bernice (Obrist) Tolles; a daughter, Gloria Foley of Long Beach, NY; a son, Willard, of Syracuse, NY; a sister, Olive Robbins of Groton; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Louise (Daly) and a daughter, Marion Procopio. He was also predeceased by his two sisters, Alice Mercier and Eva Locke, and two brothers, Raymond and Henry Tolles.

Funeral services were held May 4, 2002 in Syracuse, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.

Geraldine married Raymond Eliot Tolles August 6, 1946 in Ayer, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Raymond was born November 20, 1913 in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Williard Proctor Tolles and Nellie Anderson. Raymond died April 11, 2000 at 86 years of age. The PEPPERELL FREE PRESS reported on April 12, 2000: "Eighty-six year old Raymond Tolles died early Tuesday morning, the result of injuries received in a two-vehicle accident Monday on Longley Road. According to Groton Police, the accident was reported at 11:15 a.m. on Monday April 10, when Police, Fire, and EMS were called to Longley Road at the intersection of Drumlin Hill Road. There authorities found a badly damaged motor vehicle with two occupants and an oil truck owned by West Oil of Harvard resting on its side. Investigation of the accident revealed that a car operated by (his wife) Hilda Tolles, 84, of Longley Road in Groton was traveling north on Longley Road when it crossed the south-bound lane, into the path of the oil delivery truck being operated by Douglas Peterson, 37, of East Main Street in Ayer. Ray Tolles was life-flighted from the scene to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Raymond was employed at Shepley Hill Orchards as operator in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts circa 1930. Raymond served in the military circa 1943. He was a Master Sergeant in the 486th Engineers Division, U.S. Army. In the 1980's, he contacted members of the 486th Engineers and started organizing reunions each year in different parts of the country.

He became Marshall Moore Tolles's adoptive father in 1947. Raymond, a Unitarian, was a member of the First Parish Unitarian Church in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He resided in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

Raymond was employed at the Town of Groton as Constable in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts date unknown. He was a member of Groton Men's Club and the American Legion Post in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

"With the exception of only a few years, Mr. Tolles spent his entire life in Groton, most of it on his beloved farm on Longley Road, and most of it as a farmer. Eventually he built the sawmill he had always wanted and began cutting boards in 1989. He was in the process (2000) of building a hay storage barn with his own cut lumber and labor."

Raymond was a member of Groton Historical Society in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Raymond's funeral was held April 15, 2000 at First Parish Unitarian Church in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

Geraldine was employed at organization unknown as a journalist date unknown. She became Marshall Moore Tolles's adoptive mother date unknown. Geraldine, as Raymond's wife, resided with him in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
