He was born on Nov. 25, 1922 in Wilmington, Vt., the son of Alonzo and Lila (Upton) Crosier, the fourth of their eight children. He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1941 and from the Vermont State School of Agriculture at Randolph Center in 1943.

Following his graduation, he started working as herdsman at the school, a position he held for eight years — with the exception of the two years of service in the U.S. Army serving in Georgia and Italy during World War II. In 1945, while home on leave, he married Agnes Bryant, of North Springfield, who was a student nurse at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph.

Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to herdsman at the Agriculture School, where Agnes also worked as a school nurse. He then served 20 years as a platoon sergeant with the Vermont National Guard.

In 1951, the couple moved to North Springfield, where Mr. Crosier worked as a heating technician for a plumbing and heating firm. Six years later, he started working for the Rutland Herald as a news reporter for the greater Springfield area. He became Windsor County Bureau Chief and stayed in that position until his retirement in 1987.

After retirement he continued his affiliation with the Rutland Herald, doing free-lance writing as a columnist for another 15 years, including writing his "Wind Chaff" column. Following his retirement, he and his wife visited each of the lower 48 states and five Canadian provinces in their camper. They visited all the major Civil War battlefields, the homes of 34 U.S. presidents and a dozen or so American novelist and poets.

Mr. Crosier referred to himself as "a history nut" who followed the Lewis and Clark Trail, the Santa Fe Trail and General Grant's campaign down the Mississippi Valley. In addition to his love of history, he was an avid woods hiker, camper, snowshoer, mountain climber and gardener. He served as the leader of a 4-H Club and on the governing boards of 4-H Camp Downer in Sharon, the Vermont Humanities Council and the Springfield Recycling Committee.

He was a member of the Ascutney Trail Association and Vermont's 251 Club, and a lifetime member of the Friends of the Springfield Library.

Mr. Crosier is survived by daughter Candice Fortier and her husband Wendell of Richford; three sons: Wayne Crosier and his wife Diane of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Ernest Crosier and his wife Sarah Vail of Chester; and Lon Crosier and his wife Aesuk of Woodbridge, Va; and two sisters: Shirley Crosier of Brattleboro and Betty Adams of Vernon. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Agnes Bryant Crosier in 2012, one daughter Darlene Pudvah in 1988, one brother Ernest, and three sisters: Bernice, Doris and Marion.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday April 27, 2019 with military honors at the Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Springfield Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2003 Springfield, VT 05156.

She was born Feb. 24, 1924, in North Springfield, the daughter of Clarence and Beatrice (Whitcomb) Bryant.

She graduated from Springfield High School in 1941 and from Gifford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Randolph in 1945.

On Oct. 3, 1945, she married Bernard H. Crosier.

Mrs. Crosier worked at Springfield Hospital, Gifford Hospital in Randolph, and as a school nurse at the Vermont State School of Agriculture in Randolph Center. Later, she volunteered as a nurse at American Red Cross blood donation events.

She was active in the Baptist Church and Advent Christian Church in Randolph and North Springfield where she sang in the choirs and organized bake sales and bazaars. She also served her church as nurse at Camp Anderson in Shutesbury, Mass. In later years, she knit lap robes and mittens for Springfield Santa Claus Club and she supported Springfield Family Center Food Shelf.

She enjoyed camping in the U.S. and Canada.

Survivors include her husband of North Springfield; four children, Candice Fortier of Richford, Wayne Crosier of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Ernest Crosier of Chester and Lon Crosier of Woodbridge, Va; a brother, the Rev. Cushman Bryant of Dowling Park, Fla; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Crosier was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene Pudvah; and four siblings, Beulah Stone, Helen Martin, Everett and Phillip Bryant.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Advent Christian Church in North Springfield, with the Rev. Floyd McIntyre, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Advent Christian Church, PO Box 21, North Springfield, VT 05150; or Springfield Family Center, 365 Summer St., Springfield, VT 05156.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Armand was born in West Glover, Vt., on June 22, 1937, son to the late Arthur Felix and Maria (Sheltra) Diette. He was raised and educated in W. Glover and joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and was stationed in Texas at Amarillo Air Force Base. On May 20, 1961, he married the former Elizabeth E. (Sicard) and they have shared 55 years together. Armand worked as a plumber and they made their home in Barton and have wintered in Florida for many years. Armand was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards and was almost always the winner at horseshoes. He so very much loved visiting with family and friends.

Armand is survived by his beloved wife Betsy Diette, his five children: Kathy Devereaux and husband, Chris, of Sutton, Vt., Peter Diette and wife, Teresa, of Barton, Vt., Kevin Diette and wife, Jennifer, of Richford, Vt., Tracy Dupuis and husband, Richard, of Groveton, N.H., Jeffrey Diette and wife, Stephanie, of Brighton, Colo., a sister: Antoinette "Peanut" Makrianis of Holyoke, Mass., 9 grandchildren: Brandi, Matthew, Joel, Kevin, Jr., Corey, Carlie, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Erin, and 7 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Meghan, Gabriel, Madison, Briahna and Ella and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 7 siblings: Paul Diette, Cecile Hebert, Yvonne Urie, Pauline Gilfillan, Irene Renault, Rachel Coburn and Janet Currier.

A private Graveside Service will be held in the spring at the Veteran's Cemetery in Randolph, Vt.

There will be no Calling Hours.
