ObituaryJan 2, 2002  OBITUARY: ENOSBURG FALLS -- Alma Curtin Benoit, age 93, widow of Elzear Benoit, passed on to a better place Tuesday morning, Jan. 1, 2002, at the Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans.

She was born in Enosburg Falls, Dec. 31, 1908, the daughter of the late William and Julia (Duso) Curtin.
She was a life long resident of Enosburg Falls. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Ann. She graduated from UVM Normal School in 1930 with a degree in teaching. She taught second grade at Enosburg Elementary School for 39 years, retiring in 1970. Alma will be remembered for her tireless dedication, her interesting classroom environment, her quiet but firm discipline. She was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society where she was able to meet and socialize with other teachers.
Her camp at Lake Carmi brought her many joyful experiences. She never tired of watching the lake or the beautiful sunsets there, and captured many beautiful scenes on film. She was an avid bird watcher, and could often be found surveying the bird feeders at camp or from the kitchen window. Her love of animals provided a long succession of dogs and cats with a life of luxury. They were pampered beyond imagination.

She was very dedicated to her family and friends and took great enjoyment from babysitting her grandchildren. She often said that her reason for retiring from teaching was to become a full time babysitter.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Simmons and her husband Scott of Essex Jct; her grandchildren, Julie Rand of Richmond, and Catherine Sage and her husband Andrew of Langdon, N.H; five great-grandchildren, Molly, Jake and Gabe Rand, and Hannah and Ian Sage; one brother, William Curtin of Enosburg Falls; a stepdaughter, Kerneth Gardner of Colchester; seven step-grandchildren, Phyllis, Bradley, Paula, Cathy, Paula, Gail and Karen, and their families; several nieces and nephews. She is now at rest with her husband, Elzear, who predeceased her in 1955. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Irene Barter and Molly Murray; a stepdaughter, Jean Cotter; two step-grandchildren, Marie (Cotter) French and Becky Gardner.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Gerard Leclerc celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls.

ObituaryApr 8, 2005  OBITUARY: ENOSBURG FALLS / EAST MONTPELIER - Carmi J. Duso, age 101, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans.

He was born Nov. 22, 1903, in Enosburg Falls, the son of the late Henry and Lena (Benoit) Duso.

Carmi was a resident of Enosburg Falls until 1969, at which time he moved to East Montpelier and lived there until 2004. He moved back to Enosburg Falls, ands made his home at the Brownway residence. He was employed at New England Telephone for 42 years, retiring in 1969, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

All of his life, Carmi was very active and involved in many community groups and organizations; member of the Enosburgh Fire Dept. serving as Chief for 24 years, member and past president of the Franklin County Fire Fighters Assoc., member and past president of the Vermont State Fire Fighters, Assoc., member and past president of the Vermont State Fire Chiefs Assoc., member and past president of the New England Fire Chiefs Assoc., charter member and past president of the Enosburg Falls Lions Club, which he was very involved with the June Dairy Festival, Director of the Boy Scouts of America and received the Order of the Arrow Award for adult leadership, member of the Vermont Snow Travelers Association (VAST) for which he served as executive director for 20 years from 1972 to 1992 and served as their lobbyist to the Vermont Legislature. He was also very instrumental in securing the current trail system throughout Vermont. Snowmobilers honored him with the Iron Dog Brigade Award in 1986. He was also a member of the International Snowmobile Congress.

He enjoyed hunting, golf, tennis, photography, snowmobiling and skiing.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Ovitt) Duso of East Montpelier; his children, Ronald Duso and his wife Shirley of Enosburg Falls, and Elsie Corey and her husband Charles of Blaine, Minn; his stepchildren, Robert Lumnah and his wife Nancy of Kingston, N.H., James Dudley and his wife Faith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Barbara Hayes of Enosburg Falls, and Charlene McIntire and her husband Jonathan of Longwood, Fla; one brother, Jackson Duso and his wife Kay of Cow Island, N.H; two sisters, Helen Rainault of Williston, and Pearl Sterling of Louisiana; numerous grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha (Haire) Duso; his second wife, Hilda (Lumnah) Duso; and his siblings, Earl, Eula, Mary and Walter.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church, with Pastor Cheryl Heater officiating. Interment will follow in the West Enosburg Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

ObituaryAug 17, 2020  OBITUARY: ALTON — On Sunday, August 2, 2020, Jackson Henry Duso, World War II Veteran, loving husband and father of seven, passed away peacefully at the age of 101.5 years old at a family home in Alton, NH. Jackson was born on November 28, 1918, in Enosburg Falls, VT.

He was pre-deceased by his wife Catherine (Kay) Duso and his son, Anthony.

He is survived by five sons, Richard (and wife Carol), David (and wife Lugene), Steven (and wife Janice), James, Denis; and a daughter, Diane; and 3 following generations of grandchildren.

He was an avid traveler and loved the open road, traveling the countryside with his wife Kay and their Harley Davidson motorcycle club in their early years, as a long-distance truck driver before retiring, and as "snowbirds" to and from Florida after retirement. He and Kay lived in many states throughout their marriage, but always had a love for Lake Winnipesaukee. It is there that they built a camp on Cow Island, which is their legacy that will live on for generations.

He enjoyed remaining active in many activities, some of his favorites included fishing, boating, golfing, and bowling. He was very proud of the many trophies he was awarded during his years of golfing and bowling. He even found water skiing at the age of 80. However, his favorite pastime in the later years was watching the grandchildren grow up to appreciate the lake and to be a part of all the fun to be had at camp.

He was lovingly cared for at home by his family for the last five years of his life, and told everyone he knew that he was very lucky and grateful to have such a wonderful family.

ObituaryNov 3, 2008  OBITUARY: ENOSBURG FALLS - Helen M. Rainault, age 82, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 2, 2008, at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester.

She was born Dec. 3, 1925, in Enosburgh, the daughter of the late Henry and Linnie (Benoit) Duso.

Helen had been a resident of Green Mountain Nursing Home since February of 2008. She was a former resident East Hartford, Conn., where she had been employed at Pratt & Whitney, retiring in 1975. Following her retirement she moved back to Vermont, living in Richmond and Williston. She also spent many summers fishing at her camp on Lake Carmi in Franklin as well as at her brother's camp at Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire. She enjoyed working as a volunteer for the United Way RSVP Program. She also enjoyed taking rides, especially in the fall.

She is survived by one son, Gene LaFountain and his wife, Jackie, of St. Albans; three daughters, Joyce Combs of Williston, Norma Amsden and her husband, Mark, and Dorothy Madore and her husband, Thomas, all of Lady Lake, Fla; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Duso of Chatham, N.Y; a sister, Pearl Sterling and her husband, Wayne, of Kenner, La; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, George G. Rainault; a son, Robert LaFountain; three brothers, Carmi, Earl and Walter Duso; and two sisters, Mary Holtzclaw, and Eula Emerson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

Mrs. Duso was born in Waterbury, Conn., on Feb. 25, 1906, the daughter of Bridget (Mahoney) and Thomas Moriarity. She had moved to this area in 1977 from Worcester, Mass., where she had made her home for 40 years.
She was a former Grange member, and she and her late husband were members of a model railroad club. She was known as an excellent cook.
Her husband, Earle J. Duso, died in 1990.
Mrs. Duso is survived by her niece, Maureen Hadley of Peterborough; and two nephews, David Geoffrey of Peterborough and Daniel Geoffrey of Keene.
SERVICES: A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord St., Peterborough. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Vine Street, Peterborough, with Reverend William Kelley, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations gifts may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, in care of St. Peter's Church, Vine Street, Peterborough 03458.
