ObituaryMar 27, 2014  OBITUARY: Mildred Gurganus Branyan died on Tuesday, March 25, at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.

Mrs. Branyan was born June 9, 1933 in Norfolk, Va. and was the youngest daughter born to the late William Clement and Mary Ella Rountree Hofler. On August 1, 1959 she married Samuel Eli Gurganus, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1994. On August 21, 1999, she married Robert G. Branyan II, who survives.

She was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, and in later years, a member of Kempsville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Branyan is survived by her son, Richard Gurganus and wife, Patricia of Hendersonville, TN; two daughters, Carol Copeland and husband, Terry of Suffolk, Va; Linda Cordon and husband Sonny, of Bath, NC; one sister, Evelyn Thompson and husband, Johnny of Fort Myers, Fla; her beloved grandchildren, Jason, Joshua and Jennifer Copeland, Brandi and Troy Cordon, Casie Lehman, and Adam Gurganus. She had five great-grandchildren, Caroline & Jackson Eli Cordon, Baxter & Bennet Lehman, and Brayden Gurganus.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 6350 Center Drive, Norfolk, VA, 23502.
