Mr. LaGrange proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He came to Okeechobee from Vermont 65 years ago. He worked at the Boy’s School. He was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church.

Mr. LaGrange is survived by his wife, Evelyn LaGrange; son, Charles A. LaGrange; four daughters, Brenda Prescott, Debbie Basket (John) all of Okeechobee, Sandy Sandy (Vince) of Inverness and Darlene Green (Charlie) of Vidalia, GA; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Fouraker officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

 He was the son of Adolphus Kingdonna and Mary Rose Girard.1 
News Article*Jun 3, 1896 Michael Kingdonner, a laborer, was at work tramping a powder charge in Wheelcock & Dawler’s quarry, in Berlin last Thursday afternoon when the powder exploded and his eyes were blown from his head and his face horribly disfigured. He was thrown back some distance and rendered almost unconscious, the blood pouring in streams from the wounds in his face and head. The charge exploded because it was not properly covered with damp mud before tamping in the broken brick. Michael Malone, who went to the quarry to see a friend, and was looking on, had a half inch stone blown through his cheek, so that it was taken out of the inside of his mouth and his face was filled with sand and powder. Kingdonner was down in a small cut tamping with a bar. He was talking with Malone and would lift up the bar and let it fall back into the hole with a little push. Mr. Wheelock was in the blacksmith shop at the time of the discharge and felt that everything was not as it should be, as it was customary to blow the horn before lighting the fuse. He heard Kingdonner cry “Paul” and looking out saw him on his knees with his hands on one cheek. Mr. Wheelock ran to his brother’s home and telephoned for medical attendance, Drs Chandler and Kemp responding immediately. They removed a good-sized stone from Malone’s cheek and had Kingdonner removed to his home. He suffered little pain until the doctors commenced to dress his wounds and then it become so great that he had to be placed under the influence of ether. He is now totally blind, and it is a miracle that his head was not blown from his shoulders. He is un-married and lives with his father on Berlin Street.
