Mrs. Wells was born in Littleton, New Hampshire, on December 24, 1932, a daughter of David and Jessie (Ennor) Libby. She was brought up by Newton and Ethel Peters when her parents died while she was an infant.

The family spent several years in the Charleston area before she went to Arkansas.

She was the most loving and caring woman anyone ever knew. She loved all of her family and friends.

She was a member of the Frontier Animal Society. She liked to travel, make crafts, quilt, garden, spend time with her animals, and go to tag sales.

She was a perfect mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she would have become a perfect great-great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Wanda Steele and her husband, Kenneth, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Kittey Butler of Barton, Cindy Denton and her husband, Ricky, of Mena, Jimmy Wells and his wife, Lana, of Heavner, Oklahoma, and Penny Wells of Mena; by 18 grandchildren; by 27 great-grandchildren; and by her sister Betty Robinson of Brownington. She was predeceased by her brother David E. Libby; by two sisters, Velma C. Bowman and Wyllian M. Sanborn; by three grandchildren; and by her longtime companion, Howard Brooks.

Funeral services were held May 26 at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in East Charleston.

Should friends desire, contributions in Mrs. Wells' memory may be made to Frontier Animal Society, 502 Strawberry Acres Road, Newport, Vermont 05855.

Researcher's Note* Henry went to Missouri and then Texas, where one of his sons was treasurer of Haraman County. Henry Clay Newberry had prior and subsequent wives to Permelia Ann Reynolds. He evidently failed to mention this to Permelia when they married; shortly after
they were married a young man about Permelia's age appeared at the door asking for Mr. Newberry. When Permelia asked his business he responded that he was Mr. Newberry's oldest son. This supposedly was the first she had heard about any prior marriages. They later divorced. Both remarried; Permelia at least twice. Henry Clay is supposed to be buried at Ft. Washita, most of which is under Lake Texoma nowadays. There is some kind of monument or marker declaring the site of Ft. Washita but no information yet on who may be buried there. HC's marriage certificate states he married Permelia on 15 jan 1847 and that HC
was "of Withe (Wythe?) County. One story has it that Henry Clay Newberry was "Brought from Ireland with two of his brothers. One went to Tenn, other to Kansas". This, in spite of censuses such as the 1850 Botetourte County VA census stating Henry's
birthplace as "VA". Perhaps the Irishmen were Henry's father and uncles. HC and Parmelia left VA for MO when daughter was one year old, or some time in late 1855. About 1858 the family moved to Montague County TX and "became one of the State's early Pioneers".
