Clyde was born and raised near Londonderry Vermont. After entering the Army as a young man he met and married his future wife in Germany and brought his young family back to the U.S. to settle in Browns Mills. His Army career ended with a year of service in Vietnam. After a 20-year career as a cook in the Army he also worked for the Yardville Correctional Institution and New Lisbon Developmental School. Clyde was a devoted husband and father and an avid gardener who shared his bounty freely with his friends and neighbors.

Clyde is survived by his daughter, Dorothy L. Amsden and his son Bryan R. Amsden. He is also predeceased by his wife Lore Amsden and their son Garry C. Amsden.

The family will hold a memorial service to celebrate Clyde’s life on March 30, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Brethren Church in Presidential Lakes NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Messiah Lutheran Brethren Church, 530 Virginia Drive, Browns Mills, NJ 08015 or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

He was born in St. Albans on April 26, 1950 the son of the late Everett Sr. & Doris (Reed) Atherton. Everett grew up in Bakersfield and attended both Brigham Academy and Enosburg Falls High School. He graduated from Enosburg Falls High School, class of 1968, where he was a stand-out pitcher for the baseball team. After high school he enlisted in the United States NAVY and received his honorable discharge in 1970. Everett married Susan Spratt in August of 1973 and together, raised their two children in Enosburg Falls. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, being at camp, spending time with family and watching the Red Sox, especially at Fenway Park. Everett spent 25+ years working in contractor sales and he cherished the relationships he made with both co-workers and customers, he truly loved his job. He is survived by his wife, Susan Atherton of Richford; their children, Jeff Atherton and his wife Joy, their son Evan all of Underhill and Lisa Atherton and her significant other, Drew Delorme of Fairfax; his siblings, Corrine Gregoire and her husband Paul of Swanton, Lorraine Brigante and her husband Cosimo of Colchester, Garth Atherton and his wife Judy of Enosburg, Janice Fletcher and her husband Noel “Buddy” of Richford and Garry Atherton and his wife Debra of Richford; his mother-in-law, Gloria Spratt of Pittsburgh, PA; his sisters-in-law, Donna Soxman of Pittsburgh, PA, Barbara Bennewitz and her husband Scott of Cincinnati, OH and Jean Sullivan and her husband Greg of Litchfield Park, AZ; his brother-in-law, Lawrence Gregoire of Richford and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Everett was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Gregoire. Lorraine was born June 13, 1940 in Bakersfield to Everett and Doris (Reed) Atherton. After graduating from Brigham Academy in 1958, she met her soulmate Cosimo 'Coke' Brigante. They were married April 30, 1960 and spent the next 56 years working tirelessly and raising a family of four at the Brigante Farm Stand in Colchester.

There was nothing she loved more than a Sunday afternoon sitting at the kitchen table playing a game of Five Hundred with whoever was around and willing. There were also those weekday afternoon games that had a running score throughout the winter with George and Mary. Her happiest moments were when the entire family -children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were around. Whether spending time at the lake house in North Hero, with the Atherton ladies laughing and telling stories, or simply sitting around the table talking with Coke and the kids, she was always front and center.

Lorraine was always sure to speak her mind, we never had to wonder what she was thinking and loved her for that. She was always the life of the party and the heart and soul of our family, always putting her family first and never thinking twice about it. She will be dearly missed.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Coke Brigante of Colchester; four children, Pamela Cutting and husband, Mike, Steve Brigante, Joe Brigante and wife, Diane, and Sue Rublee and husband, Tim; five grandsons Eric and wife, Stephanie, Doug, Bobby, Nicholas, and Alex; Her long awaited and only granddaughter, Molly; she also was recently blessed with her great-granddaughter, Abigail Evelyn; sisters, Corrine and husband, Paul, Janice and husband, Noel; brothers, Garth and wife, Judy, Garry and wife, Debbie, brother-in-law, Lawrence and sister-in-law Sue; in-laws, Frances, John, Peter and wife, Marge, Mary and husband, George, Cathy, Frank and wife, Dottie. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Monique Brigante, parents, Everett and Doris Atherton, her sister, Phyllis Gregoire, brother, Everett Atherton, mother-and father-in-law Pietro and Cecilia Brigante, brothers-in-law, Ray Bosley and Ray Halnon, and sister-in-law, Velma Brigante.

Visiting hours will be Thursday June 2, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main Street in Winooski.

A Christian Mass will be celebrated on Friday June 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
