The earliest record of Darrow in New London is in 1663 when a Christopher Darrow is found on a list of those granted land in New London by King Charles II. This would seem to indicate that Christopher was either a brother or father of Sergeant George Darrow who arrived New London about 1674. Sgt. Darrow, a soldier of the British army, is believed to have left London on a British Man of War bound for Cuba, and from Cuba made his was to New London. One account states George came from Leigh, Lancaster, England, United Kingdom, and probably from Scotland originally where the name was Darragh.

George Darrow married Mary Sharswood, widow of Lt. George Sharswood. Very little is known of George Sharswood except that he was an early settler of New London, and built a house in 1668 probably the time of his marriage. Mary and George Sharswood had four children before his death.

George Darrow died in 1704 and is buried in New London, and Mary died in 1698.

Milit-Beg*between 1863 and 1865 Calvin Shiflett began military service between 1863 and 1865 Calvin served in Company F, 35th Virginia Calvery. Calvin is listed in Charlottesville Hospital from 30 March, 1863 to 18 May, 1863 with cystitis/debilitias. According to a great-great grandson of Calvin, his mother told him the story that her grandmother, Elizabeth, (Calvin's wife) had told her: "Calvin, along with several other cousins and soldiers deserted in 1864/65 time frame due to lack of food, clothing and horses. A number of them were captured and held in the basement of a large, white house in Boonesville, Albemarle County, Virginia. Just a day or so before the end of the War, Elizabeth was bringing some food for the prisoners and as she was coming over the hill she heard gunshots from the house. Calvin and several others, including Tipton Walton, were executed. Several others were able to make a successful escape". Note: Tipton and Sallie Dowell Walton's daughter, Sarah Ann, married Calvin's son, Charles P. Shiflett in 1870.
Calvin is most likely buried in the Old Shiflett Cemetery on the Lynch River on the late Leo Shiflett farm which is a few miles from where he was shot or possibly on Frazier Mountain. After Calvin's death, Elizabeth took up with Tom Frazier. Tom and Elizabeth had two children; Louisa J. Frazier, born 1868 and William A. "Little Tommy" Frazier, born 1871. 
Death*circa 1864 He died circa 1864 , during the Civil War. He was executed as prisoner of war & deserter at Boonesville, Albemarle County, Virginia, United States. 
Burial*circa 1864 He was buried circa 1864 at Prize Hill Cemetery, Boonesville, Albemarle County, Virginia, United States. . Check this cemetery. Not sure it is correct. It may be the Old Shiflett Cemetery, on the Lynch River, Boonsville, VA.1
