He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson and Lela Guy Shifflett; one brother, Charles Wilson Shifflett; five sisters, Roberta Garrison, Martha Thomas, Virginia Shifflett, Margaret Garrison, and Mary M. (Maga) Morris. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy R. Shifflett and his daughter, Diane Elaine Shifflett. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Robey was a lifelong resident of Browns Cove and a member of Gentry United Methodist Church in Boonesville and Browns Cove Methodist Church in Browns Cove. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II and the United States Army. Robey worked at Acme Visible Records in Crozet as a Maintenance Supervisor for 35 years and retired to farming in 1989. Robey's generosity and skills were well known throughout the community. He never refused to lend a helping hand to those in need. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. David Chesler and Dr. Rick Stewart, the staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital, and the staff at Golden Living for the very special care given to Robey and the kindness shown to the family members during his stay there. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Mount Moriah Methodist Church in White Hall. The Reverend Ben Houchens and Pastor Eddie Deane will be officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

ObituaryNov 9, 1981  OBITUARY: A. C. (Sam) Shiflett, 81, of Boonesville died Tuesday morning at the Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born in Albemarle County on June 11, 1900, and was the son of the late, Edward and Elizabeth Shiflett. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Md. after 43 years of service; was a member of The Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, and a member of Oddfellows Lodge #171, Dundalk, Md. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Shiflett of Boonesville; one daughter, Agnes Nadine Shiflett of Baltimore, Md; a son, Chester Carl Shiflett of Crozet; one sister, Mrs. Beulah Holley of Crozet; two granddaughters, Carol Ann Johnson, and Karen Jo Chisholm; close family members, Mrs. Mildred Gibson of Boonesville, Mrs. Barbara Shipp, of Charlottesville and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral will be 2 p.m. on Friday at Prize Hill Church. The Rev. Earl Hammer officiating with interment in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the home until 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The Joseph W. Teague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
