ObituaryJun 27, 2003  OBITUARY: KEENE -- Marshall Willard Wheeler, 100, of Langdon Place died June 24, 2003, surrounded by his children.
It was one month after his 100th birthday celebration was attended by more than 40 family members and friends.
He was born on May 24, 1903, in Clinton, N.Y., the son of John and Adella (Browning) Wheeler. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1921 and from Hamilton College in Clinton in 1925 where he majored in Greek. He earned a master's degree in education administration from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
In 1926, Mr. Wheeler was a math teacher and football coach for Sidney High School in Sidney, N.Y., where he met Elsie Thornton Gibson. They married on Thanksgiving Day in 1929 and were together for 68 years.
He was an educator for 39 years. He served as principal of Martin Van Buren High School in Kinderhook, N.Y., and of Lansingburgh High School in Troy, N.Y., for 25 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and hunting. He was a rifle instructor at a boys camp in Union, Maine. He and Elsie were fire wardens during summers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, hiking up and down the mountains every other day for supplies.
He and Elsie built a camp with the help of family and friends on Lake Piseco, N.Y. They spent their retirement years between there and Aiken, S.C.
He was active in Kiwanis and was a member of the Episcopal Vestry in Trinity, Troy, and St. Hubert's in Lake Pleasant, N.Y.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie, on Dec. 19, 1996.
Family members include two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Carol "Pat") DeMillia of West Hartford, Conn., and Mrs. John (Anne "Judy") Laffan of Tampa, Fla; a son, Dr. John Wheeler of Piseco, N.Y; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
SERVICES: There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Langdon Place, 136½ Arch St., Keene. Rev. Peter R. Coffin, rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Keene, will officiate.
Burial will be in Higgins Bay Cemetery in Piseco, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hamilton College, 198 College Hill Road, Clinton, N.Y. 13323, or to a charity of one's choice.

Claude was born in Seoul, South Korea, to John and Nicole Rountree. He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a BS in Finance and from Central Michigan University with a MBA. He was married to Karen Rountree, his loving wife of 17 years.

For the past 23 years, Claude was the Finance Manager for Public Safety at Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

He is survived by his dedicated wife, Karen; his much loved twin daughters, Anna and Rachel; his loving parents John and Nicole; and his devoted dog, Princess.
