ObituarySep 25, 2017  OBITUARY: Bickford C. Libby, 86, of Orleans, VT passed away on September 21, 2017 in Barton surrounded by his family. He was born on March 28, 1931 in St. Johnsbury, VT to Clarence and Alice (Smith) Libby. On October 17, 1962 he married Audrey Rexford who predeceased him on October 15, 2012.

Mr. Libby was road commissioner for the Town of Barton for many years along with owning his own business. Although he wore many hats, there was one thing he always had time for and that was family. His strong desire and dedication in life gained the love and respect of many. He always tended to others before himself making sure everyone was taken care of.

Among other things he enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren watching them grow. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and baseball (he was a Boston Red Sox fan), reading, doing puzzles, and plowing snow. We will cherish all of the memories from his love of telling stories, spending time at his family farm and taking road trips.

He is survived by his children: Connie McCoy of Brownington, VT and Donna Driver and her husband Bill of North Troy, VT, by his grandchildren: Melissa Schwarm and her husband Scott, Randy Marckres and his wife Amber, Timothy Marckres and his wife Angel, Jennifer Driver and Danielle Driver and by 7 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at the family's convenience at Pleasant View Cemetery in Orleans with the Rev. Glenn Saaman officiating.

Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Maple Lane Nursing Home Activities Fund, 60 Maple Lane, Barton, VT 05822.

She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Melissa Schwarm and her husband Scott of Coventry, VT; Randy Marckres and his wife Amber of Brownington, VT; Timothy Marckres of Orleans, VT; Jennifer Deyo and her husband Zac of Orleans, VT; and Danielle Driver of Newport Center, VT. She also had 7 great-grandchildren: Cody, Conner, Gabrielle, Madison, Sage, Noah, and Avery. She is survived by her sisters: Phyliss Littleton and her husband Hearl of Lexington, KY; Doris Lanoue and her husband Yvon of Westfield, VT; Nancy Alger and her husband David of Lexington, KY; and Joyce Coburn and her husband Donald of Orleans, VT. She was born on May 28, 1919 in Brownington to Clyde and Mable (Marsh) Herman. On March 21, 1936 she married Merrick M. Rice who predeceased her in 1991.

Leona enjoyed going to Home Dem meetings and was a member of the Ladies Christian Club and also was a member of the Brownington Village Church. When they were first married they ran a farm and when they done farming she worked for several families in the area. At one time she cooked meals for hot lunches in schools. She also enjoyed playing cards, making afghans which made prize possessions to family members in addition to ones that she sold and others that she gave away. Along with everything else she enjoyed playing board games and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her children: Linda Child, Robert Rice and his wife Laurie and Carla McCoy and her husband Peter all of Brownington, VT, by her grandchildren: Karen and Rick Marston of Naples, Maine, Wendy Child of Portland, Maine, Michael Child and his wife Melissa of Dover, NH, Sharey Rice and her friend Joseph Lund of Burke,VT, Adam Rice and his wife Yuka of Walden, VT, by 5 great grandchildren: Haley Hammond, Kasey Rice, Alexandria and Emily Child, and Cameron Rice-Lund. She is survived by her brother Willard Herman and his wife Nancy of Collinsville, CT, and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Arnold, and by her sisters: Pauline Green and Velma Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday November 7, 2014 at the Brownington Village Congregational Church with the Rev. Harvey Bartlett officiating. Friends may call at the Church on Friday November 7, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the funeral. Interment will follow in Irasburg Cemetery.
