ObituaryDec 18, 1912  OBITUARY: Edwin H. Hoffman, the well-known dealer in Morgan horses, died at Lyndon Saturday morning from Bright's disease. He had been failing for two years and had been very ill for several weeks. His paternal ancestor Henry Hoffman, was a German, who enlisted in the Revolutionary army, and at the close of the war invested his prize money in land in Lyndon and St. Johnsbury, then unsettled towns. Edwin H. was the son of William Hoffman and Helen Harris, his second wife and was born in Lyndon, April 18, 1858. He was educated at Lyndon Institute and Dartmouth college and studied law with George W. Cahoon, being admitted to the bar of Caledonia county in 1881. He practised for a time in St. Johnsbury and Lyndon but soon after his marriage to Mary E. Cahoon, daughter of his law partner, on Nov. 23, 1882, he moved to the Gen. William Cahoon farm and before long gave up his legal business for the interesting work of raising Morgan horses, becoming one of the most successful breeders in the state. He wrote quite extensively for agricultural press on his special lines. Although never prominent in town affairs he was interested in educational matters and had held the offices of superintendent and school director and had also held other minor town offices. He is survived by his wife and 10 children. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon,
Rev. E. E. Grant of St. Johnsbury East officiating.
