Surviving besides her husband, Thomas Kline of New Lothrop are her children, Scott and Kimberlee Kline, of New Lothrop; Jeffrey and Lori Kline of Grand Blanc; Timothy and Colette Kline of Fenton; Nicholas and Patricia Kline of Swartz Creek; David and Christa Kline of Flint; Steven and Shelly Kline of Monroe, her grandchildren, Brittney, Brandon, Gabirelle, Kenton, Trevor, Cory, Jennifer, Emily and Morgan Kline; her mother, Margaret Garant of New Lothrop; three sisters, Patricia and Ronald Wenzlick of Flushing; Marjorie and Lloyd Henige of New Lothrop; Kathleen and Ronald Gross of New Lothrop; one brother, Charles and Marie Garant of New Lothrop; her uncles, James Prieur, Thomas Prieur, Andrew Prieur, and Elmer Prieur; many nieces, nephews and cousins. On Sept. 29, 1929, Frances was born in Rogers City, Mich., to the late George and Veronica (Kohsmann) Shorkey. She married Robert Garant on Sept. 17, 1949, at St. Ignatius Catholic church in Rogers City, Mich. He preceded her in death after 57 years, on Aug. 3, 2007. Fran worked as a Cafeteria Aide for the Alpena Public Schools for 27 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, past member of St. Elizabeth Society, and All Saints Parish Rosary Society Group 5. Fran enjoyed spending her time with her family and cooking.
She is survived by her 11 children, Robert F. (Kathy) Garant of Alpena, Mich., David (Rhonda) Garant of Ironton, Mo., Leonard (Cheryl) Garant of Farmington Hills, Mich., Charles (Dona) Garant of Rochester, N.Y., John (Jeannine) Garant of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Carl (Doreen) Garant of Dexter, Mich., Jane (Edwin) Degen of Hubbard Lake, Mich., Mary (Henry) Winslow of Northville, Mich., Elaine (Lyle) Schultz of Alpena, Mich., Lori (John) Clements of Alpena, Mich., Linda (Terry) Ferguson of Hubbard Lake, Mich; Two daughters-in-law Cindy Varney and Carolann Roussin; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Donna) Shorkey of Burton, Mich., George (Janet) Shorkey of Lapeer, Mich; one sister, Geraldine (Julian) Romel of Alpena, Mich; several nieces and nephews.
Fran was preceded in death by her son Mark Garant; three brothers, Henry, Jerome and Delmont Shorkey; three sisters, Louise Shorkey, Genevieve Belz and Mercedes Cherrette.
Family and friends will gather at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for visitation on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. The Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 3 p.m. Parish Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial begins with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating.
