ObituaryJul 12, 2002  OBITUARY: TRENTON, S.C. - The Rev. Leon W. Knowles, 65, died July 6, 2002, while on a missionary trip in the Isles of Samoa.

He was a native of Barre, Vt., and had lived in Trenton for the past 23 years.

He was a full time minister and a member of the Missionary Church International.

The Rev. Knowles volunteered much of his time to the Edgefield County Senior Citizen Council, the Mission of Hope Church of Cayce and to the elderly at local nursing homes.

Survivors include his wife, Theo E. Knowles of Trenton; three sons, George Knowles of Beech Island, Tony Knowles of Gainesville, Ga., and Eric Knowles of Trenton; two daughters, Michele Smith of North Augusta and Melanie Smith of Modoc; a brother, Arthur Knowles of Plainfield, Vt; two sisters, Ramona Hardaker of Williamstown, Vt., and Zita Champney of South Royalton, Vt; eight grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred Knowles and Gerald Knowles.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Trenton. The Rev. DeWitt Harsey will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Rowland Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. or at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.

Bearers will be Aaron Knowles, Joseph Knowles, Randy Smith, Raymond Smith, Charles Miller and Pastor Phillip Hamilton.

Rowland Funeral Home in North Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
