| Obituary | Sep 9, 2014 | OBITUARY: SOUTH ROYNTON, VT - Zita K. Champney, 81 died Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT. She was born February 4, 1933 in Brookfield, VT the daughter of Herbert and Gladys (Williams) Knowles. She attended school in Brookfield and later went to Randolph where she graduated in 1950 from Randolph High School. In 1963 she moved to South Royalton to live with and help Ray Ballou and his children Judy, Jim and Bill. Following the death of Ray in 1977 she remained in South Royalton. On August 12, 1978 she married Chester "Tink" Champney of Bolton, VT. Tink and Zita ran a woodworking business in Bolton and spent many winters in Florida. Tink died in 1998. Zita enjoyed doing volunteer work, whether she was working at the Thrift Shop in South Royalton, helping with Bingo at the Royalton Civic Center in Royalton, Women's Auxiliary V.F.W. in White River Jct., VT or cooking at the South Royalton Area Senior Citizen's dinners. She enjoyed baking for people in the area. She is survived by a son, Larry Champney and his wife, Kim of South Royalton, VT; two daughters, Joyce Harrness-Thompson and her husband, Jim and Nancy Wight and her husband, Roy all of South Royalton, VT; a step-son, George Champney and his wife, Jo-Ann of Bolton, VT; three step-daughters, Betty Charland of Jonesville, VT, Marie Weston of Huntington, VT and Sandra Danyew of Waterbury Center, VT; a step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Champney of Waterbury, VT; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren with another one due in December, several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four stepchildren, Albert Champney, Gordon Champney, Marion Farrell and Barbara Durand; four brothers, Alfred, Gerald, Arthur and Leon Knowles and a sister, Ramona Hardaker. There will be no public calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brookfield Center Cemetery In Brookfield, VT with Pastor Millie Reynolds officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either: South Royalton Senior Center, P.O. Box 344, South Royalton, VT 05068 or First Congregational Church of Royalton, P.O.
