Mr. Corbitt was born in Gates County. The son of the late Richard and Mrs. Pearl Russell Corbitt, he was a retired mechanic with Byrum Motor Company in Sunbury. A member of Damascus Christian Church, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the husband of the late Mary Belle Griffin Corbitt.

Surviving are two sons, Russell Corbitt Jr. of Southport, N.C., and Wayne Corbitt of Zuni, Va; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Shannon of Hampton; a sister, Sarah Roberts of Pittsboro, N.C; and eight step-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Riddick Pearce. Burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad.
