ObituaryMay 5, 2018  OBITUARY: Mark R. Tower, 63 years old, of Rutland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Rutland's Genesis-Mountainview HealthCare facility after a long illness.
Mark was born March 30, 1955, at Middlebury's Porter Hospital to the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Horner) Tower.
Mark spent his childhood in Brandon before the family moved to South Burlington in 1970. He was a 1974 graduate of South Burlington High School and a member of the undefeated 1973 South Burlington Boys High School Soccer team that finished as runners-up in the New England Tournament.
Mark had an intuitive mind for mechanical engineering and resolving industrial machining problems, which served him well during his years living in the Los Angeles, California, and Seattle, Washington, areas where he worked for companies such as Fluke Metals and Boeing Aircraft as a foreman/lead machinist. His engineering interest motivated him to study industrial technology at Los Angeles Pierce College, despite his dislike of "book learning." Upon his return to Vermont, he worked for Pre-Tech Plastics in Williston until forced into retirement due to ill health.
Mark was an avid fan of NASCAR racing, the Boston Red Sox and the NFL's New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.
Mark is survived by brother Scott Tower, his wife, Amy, of Underhill, and nephew Alexander Tower, of Essex Junction, VT; brother John Tower, his wife, Janice, of Rutland, VT, nephew John, his wife, Danielle, their children Gabriel and Elliot, of Brunswick, ME, and nephew Robert Obee Tower, his wife, Meaghan, and their children Kyla and Sophie, of Toronto, Ontario; Aunt Cassie Horner and Uncle Tim Sink, of Plymouth, VT; and numerous cousins.
Mark's family extends its heartfelt thanks to the Genesis-Mountainview staff of Rutland for the loving care and kindness given to Mark.
Mark loved his cats. So, please make memorial contributions to your local humane society.
