ObituaryAug 28, 2004  OBITUARY: Hazel Carrie Hurd, age 85 died January 14, 1919, at the Ridgewood Nursing Home in Bedford, NH following a long illness. Born in Newport Jan. 14, 1919 the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Allen) Hurd, and had resided in Newport most of her life and in Clearwater, FL. for 7 years. She was the widow of Winston Harry Hurd who died in 2000, they had been married for 59 years.
Hazel was raised and attended school in Newport. She enjoyed working at several of the local restaurants including Teddie's, the Newport House and the Winston Hotel where she became a Chef. She also worked at the Newport Clothing Co. as an assistant cutter. Her last employment was as a Chef at the Pines Restaurant in Newport. Hazel was an active member of the Newport Golf Club and the Foresters Club. She enjoyed bowling as well as her embroidering and crocheting which was enjoyed by many of her family and friends. Her greatest joy was playing cards, all kinds of cards.
Members of her family include 2 daughters: Carolyn Ann and her husband Donald Moore of Orlando FL. Elaine and her husband Robert Lamonthe of Epping NH. A son: Rodney and his wife Wauneta Hurd of Lempster. 2 brothers: Ward and his wife Gertrude Hurd of Claremont and Robert and his wife Monica Hurd of Newport. There are 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Harold Hurd of Newport.
A graveside committal service will be conducted Wednesday Sept. 1st at 11:00AM at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport. The Rev. Thomas Shanklin officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
