Researcher's Note* 
Capt. Ebenezer Newcomb resided in that part of Eastham which in 1763 was set off to form the town of Wellfleet. He was a mariner and about 1773 removed with his son David to Oxford, Mass., and in 1782 to Greenwich in the same state. In 1760 his son David was appointed guardian to his younger brothers and sisters, to take care of property which fell to them as heirs of their maternal grandfather, Ebenezer Freeman. On 8 Mar. 1742, Capt. Ebenezer Newcomb was chosen "hogereve" (hog catcher) and in 1749-50 he was elected "tyghingman" (peace officer) "March 21, 1750, Ebenezer" of Truro, "yeoman and wife thankful" sold land in Truro, pt or 8" lot in the last division. Capt. Newcomb was in the Old French War as a sailing master, 2 mar. 1747-8. The work on navigation which he used was preserved as a family relict for many years. He and his wife Experience joined church at Greenwich by letter from Wellfleet, 15 Jun 1782.2
