ObituaryApr 9, 2009  OBITUARY: Mrs. Florence Alice Thompson Hakey, age 86 years, died Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2009, at her home surrounded by her very loving family.

Born in Bakersfield on June 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Justin and Lillian (Reynolds) Thompson.

She was a longtime resident of Swanton and for many years made her home with her husband Edward Hakey on River Lane.

She was a parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778, Auxiliary in Swanton.

Florence is survived by two daughters, Diane Hakey and husband, Terry Bard, with whom she had made her home since 1998, and Linda Loyer and son-in-law, Richard Loyer, all of Swanton; six sons: Fred Honsinger and wife, Anita, Donald Hakey and his wife, Rosemary, John "Monk" Hakey and wife, Tina, all of Swanton, Eli Hakey and wife, Dina, of St. Albans Bay, Darence Hakey and wife, Jean, of Swanton, and Francis Hakey and wife, Marge, of Kissimmee, Fla; 30 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous step-grand, great and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers, William Thompson and his wife, Lorraine, of Swanton, and Gordon Thompson of Enosburg Falls; two sisters, Anna White and husband, Bob, of Enosburg, and Bertha Jacobs of Swanton; her god father, Doctor O.L. Dugan; good friends, Ray and Jerry Barney, David Bessette and Joe and Debby Allen, all of Swanton; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Florence was predeceased by her husband, Edward Hakey, in 1987; a son, Larry Honsinger in 1948; two sisters, Pauline Thompson and Eunice Hance; brother, James Thompson; and three step-daughters, Mary Lou Demar, Eunice Minkler and Eldora Williams.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist.

The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Hakey family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call on the family at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
