ObituaryOct 6, 2010  OBITUARY: WINOOSKI - Robert J. Blondin Sr. (Bob) died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 following a long illness.

He was born in Burlington in 1923, the son of George and Alma (Cauchon) Blondin, and was a longtime Winooski resident.

He graduated from Winooski High School in 1941. During WWII, he served in the Navy as a gunner's mate from 1942 to 1945.

He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received while serving his country.

Bob spent 10 years as an auto mechanic before joining IBM in 1957. His career at IBM spanned 35 years. He was a life member of the VFW John Ryan Post 1767. Bob attended St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski. He was a sports enthusiast, playing and officiating in many sports. He was also an avid fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, dancing, and sunsets at his camp on Lake Champlain.

Bob is survived by the mother of his children, Jane Horton; three sons, Bob Jr. and his wife Claudette, of Chagrin Falls, OH, John and his wife, Betty, of Colchester, and Dan of Burlington. He was predeceased by his son, Tom in 2001. He also leaves five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Bob also leaves his long time companion and best friend, Pauline (Polly) Lee of Milton; and her children, Steven of Glouchester, Mass., Ron and wife, Laurie, of Stafford, Va., and Valerie Lee-Hatch and husband, Paul, of Stillwater, Okla; along with 10 grandchildren who were very close. Visiting hours will be Thursday, Oct. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Oct. 8 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski.

Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, with military honors accorded Mr. Blondin by the Vermont National Guard.
