ObituaryMar 9, 1940  OBITUARY: Funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Hawley Baptist church for Frank Olney, 87. It was incorrectly reported in the Friday afternoon issue of the Reporter-News that rites were set for 2 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Olney came to Abilene March 3, 1883, from Illinois. He bought 1,000 head of sheep, but his losses during the hard winters of 1883 and 1884 were so heavy that he sold those remaining.

He went from here to the Salt Fork country about 50 miles north of Anson, but returned here shortly afterward to take a job with a lumber yard. He went to San Angelo in March, 1885, to manage a lumber yard. He went to Crockett county in 1891 where he ranched and held public office for more than a decade. He returned to this area in 1905, settling on the farm near Hawley where he had lived since.
