ObituaryFeb 11, 2011  OBITUARY: Shirley Ladd Rochefort, 91, of Newport passed away Feb. 9, 2011 in Glover. She was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Newport Center, a daughter of William and Charlotte (Collins) Turner. In 1934 she graduated from Sacred Heart High School

She married Forrest S. Ladd on Dec. 25, 1942; he predeceased her on Nov. 30, 1966, and she later married Vincent Rochefort on Oct. 10, 1981; he also predeceased her April 5, 1992.

At the age of 16 she became a bookkeeper at the former Montgomery Ward in Newport. She and Forrest raised her family in Connecticut and also in Sunbury, Pa., where she was a Avon representative. They returned to Vermont after Forrest retired. She moved back to Sunbury, where she raised her two youngest children after her husband Forrest passed away, and she worked as a bookkeeper for a food distributor.

In 1974 she moved back to Vermont, where she was a bookkeeper for a fuel oil distributor. She retired after she married Vincent Rochefort.

She held memberships with St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport and the North Country Swingers. Her hobbies included spending time with her family at camp A-Ladd-Inn on Lake Salem, traveling to see her children, and playing her piano and organ. In her childhood she sang in the Turner family "no name band." She spent a few years at Michaud Manor in Derby Line which she enjoyed very much. She also appreciated the staff at Union House Nursing Home.

She is survived by her children, Michael Ladd and wife Bonnie of Glover, David Ladd and wife Maria of Churchville, Md., Jon Ladd and wife Brenda of Watervliet, N.Y., and William Ladd and wife Lyinda of Homasassa, Fla; she is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; her step children, Lorraine Gaire of Stafford, N.H., Jane Page and husband Sam, and Kathleen Murray and husband David all of New Castle, N.H; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughters Jeanne Ladd Marsh and Cheryl Ann Ladd, and by her sisters Arlene Rocheleau and Alice Hamlin.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newport where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Spring interment in Derby Center Cemetery.
