David was born on April 27, 1933 in South Pomfret, Vermont the son of Wesley and Lena (Wood) Luce.

David was a graduate of Woodstock High School class of 1951. On November 26, 1955 David married his high school sweetheart, Edna Mae Townsend. For a few years he drove the milk truck for the Woodstock Dairy Co-Operative. He then started a long career as an electrician. David worked for Leonard’s Gas and Electric, Richards Electrical Service, and the Quechee Lakes Group. David work for the Vermont Department of Labor and Industry as State Electrical Inspector for many years, retiring in 2007.

Together David and Edna traveled the state of Vermont teaching fire safety to schoolchildren with the fire safety trailer. They also enjoyed square dancing with the Sugarhouse Swingers and snowmobiling with the Pomfret and Barnard snowmobile clubs.

David was dedicated to the town of Pomfret. He served as Pomfret Constable for 30 years, was a 50-year member of the Teago Fire Department, the Pomfret Fast Squad, a long time member of the Teago and Bridgewater Grange, and helped in many community activities. David worked several years for the Vermont Farm Bureau on Field Days David also enjoyed hunting and was known for his long run of always coming home with an 8-point buck.

David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edna of So. Pomfret, his daughter Louise and her husband Jerry Blakeney of Barnard, his son in law Jigger Barton of Reading, his grandchildren Dan and his wife Heidi Schaefer of No. Pomfret, Lisa Gibbons of Springfield, Ryan Blakeney and Loretta Blakeney of Barnard, 4 great grandchildren, a brother Edwin Luce of No. Bennington, VT, and a niece and nephew. He is pre deceased by his parents and a daughter, Patricia Barton.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday November 8th from 4 to 6 pm at the Cabot Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Sunday November 9th at 2:pm in the Bridgewater Congregational Church, burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock, VT.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bridgewater Congregational Church, P.O. Box 4, Bridgewater Vermont 05034 or to the Teago Fire Department P.O. Box 40, So. Pomfret, VT 05067, or to the charity of ones choice.

David’s family is grateful to the many caregivers that made it possible for him to remain at home.
