She was born on March 9, 1915 in Orleans, the eighth in line of nine children born to Phil and Lizzie (Magoon) Roberts.

Twila attended graded school at what is now Locke’s Garage. She then attended Orleans High School. On August 11, 1934 she married Fred Labor, who predeceased her on August 17, 1996, after sixty-two years of marriage. To them were born three children: Marilyn Labor Brill, who passed away in 1989 at age 53, Darian C. Labor of Lakeland, Florida and Brian Lee Labor and his wife Suki of Bolingbrook, Illinois. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Larose, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, by her four brothers, Vernon, Sherman, Forrest, and Maurice and by her three sisters, Verla, Verna, Theda.

Twila retired from New England Telephone when they went dial in 1961. She lived her entire life in Orleans, the last fifty at their home on Water Street, which they completely remodeled inside and out. She was very much a homebody. She enjoyed doing crafts, including making quilts, afghans, pillows, and albums and belonged to the Sew-Cro-Knit Club for over fifty years. She was also a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, where she and Fred where married, the Ladies Guild at the Church, the Daughter’s of Isabella, the Orleans Mother’s Club, and The Home Dem.

Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, Darling Hill Road, Newport (formerly Sias Ave.) on Tuesday, December 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 15 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Orleans at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Rupp officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Pleasantview cemetery in Orleans.
