ObituaryFeb 5, 2002  OBITUARY: ST. ALBANS -- Mary Sarah Machia, 87, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away early Monday morning, Feb. 4, 2002, at Holiday House Nursing Facility in St. Albans. She was born in St. Albans June 21, 1914, the daughter of the late Fred and Anna (Robtoy) Hakey. She was predeceased by her husband, William Machia.

Mary was a communicant of St. Louis Church in Highgate and a member of the Franklin County Senior Citizens. She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting and playing bingo at the St. Albans Senior Center.

Survivors include two sons, Herbert and his wife, Pat Butler of Brattleboro, Larry and Shirley Machia of Sheldon; two daughters, Helen Gilman of St. Albans, and Joyce and Larry Bosley of Richford; a sister, Elizabeth Begnoche of Naugatuck, Conn; a son-in-law, Thornton Machia of Highgate; 33 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, William, she was predeceased by a son, Fred Butler; a daughter, Frances Machia; two brothers, Paul and Clarence Hakey; and two sisters, Sylvia Cota and Arlene Paquette.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Louis Church in Highgate Center. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The St. Albans Senior Center, Messenger Street, St. Albans Vt. 05478. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main Street, St. Albans.
