ObituaryAug 7, 2009  OBITUARY: SHELDON - Roswell "Tiny" Corwell, age 81 years, died late Wednesday evening, Aug. 5, 2009, at the St. Albans Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Albans Town.

Born in Sheldon, Vt. on, July 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Fay and

Gertrude (Ladue) Corwell. received his early education in East Highgate and completed his college degree while serving in the United States Army. On Feb. 2, 1957, he married the former Elfriede Hofmann who predeceased him on June 30, 2008 following 51 years of marriage.

Tiny faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. was a highly decor at-veteran receiving the Occupation Medal Japan AR 600-65, Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal and received the my's Good Conduct Medal five times. He was honorably discharged as

Sergeant and Medical Specialist (Optician) following 31 years of active military service. During his military career he and his wife lived in several parts of this country also including many years in Germany.

They recently returned to the United States residing in Woods Hill in Sheldon. While living in Germany he became a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also belonged to the American Canadian Grand Lodge A.F.&A.M. as a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner.

He leaves his daughter, Linda Corwell of Sheldon, and her children Lisa Corwell of Germany and Oliver Corwell of Sheldon; son, Roswell Corwell Jr., his wife, Mary, and their three children of Columbus, S.C; his brother, Wayne Corwell and wife, Sylvia, of Sheldon; a sister Betty Brooks of Glasgow, Ky; a sister-in-law, Monica Strobel of Leesburg, Va. as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents and his wife, Tiny was prede-ceased by a sister, Mable Durack and three brothers, Fay, Edwin and Richard Corwell.

A funeral service will held Saturday, Aug.15, 2009, at 11 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, (802-868-3331). The Reverend Doctor Marguerite C. Gage, pastor of the Swanton Memorial and Sheldon United Methodist Parishes will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Corwell family lot in the Rice Hill Cemetery, Sheldon. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral. Gifts in His memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1460, Williston, 05495-1460.
