ObituaryApr 29, 2001  OBITUARY: MILTON - Paul Christian Paulsen, 80, of East Road died unexpectedly April 27, 2001, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
was born May 29, 1920, in Boston, Mass., the son of Paul Christian and Ruth Johnson Paulsen. Nov. 9, 1950, he married Kay Delaney in St. Aloysius Church in St. Johnsbury. She predeceased him March 29, 1975. In 1980, he was married to Jane Racine in St. Ann Church in Milton, and she predeceased him in 1984. Paul was a World War II veteran, having served in central Europe with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from the service, he was employed at Pratt-Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., retiring in 1970. He then moved to Vermont and was the cook at the Clover House Restaurant at Malletts Bay, where his first wife, Kay, was the pianist. His final retirement came in 1984 from the U.S. Postal Service for which he was a rural mailman in Williston. Dad was a lifelong lover of animals, plants, flowers and reading. One of his favorite pastimes was riding his Harley. He took many trips on his ""hog" to Laconia, N.H., among other places. He especially enjoyed one trip he made to the Sturgis, S.D., 50th anniversary motorcycle rally with his daughter, Erin-Jane, in 1988. Paul's amazing recovery from a leg amputation and stroke in 1996 was testimony to his strength and fervor for life. His beloved canine companion, Daisy, aided in his recovery and had been a huge part of his life in recent years; she will miss him greatly. Paul had many, many friends from all walks of life. He was a wonderful dad who was very involved with his children; he taught us well and provided us with much laughter in our lives. Godspeed Dad/Poppa, until we meet again. We love you.

Paul is survived by his five daughters, Kathi Sawicky of, Va., Connie Paulsen of Essex Junction, Christine Paulsen of Portsmouth, Va., Karin Paulsen of Milton, and Erin-Jane Paulsen of Milton; six grandchildren, Joan, Bill, and Jennifer Hartigan of Connecticut, Maren and Matthew Paulsen of Virginia, and Derek Desranleau of Milton; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Brittny, Michael, and Brenda, all of Connecticut. He was predeceased by two daughters, Karen Paulsen and Frances Hartigan, and his brother, Henry Paulsen.
will be held Thursday, May 3, at 2 p.m. in St. Mary Cemetery in Swanton.
