ObituaryJun 9, 2015  OBITUARY: JAMES SORENSEN Nov. 23, 1928 - June 3, 2015. James Sorensen died peacefully on June 3, 2015 in Chico, California at the age of 86. James was born on November 23, 1928 in Corning, California. He was raised by his loving grandparents, Hans and Caroline Sorensen. He attended Chico Senior High School. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 during World War II. He was on the S.S. William P. McArthur which was one of the lucky few Liberty ships that didn't sink during the WWII and also survived through a typhoon. He joined the Air Force during the Korea War in 1950. He married his sweetheart, Jane, on July 14, 1951 in Illinois where he was stationed. When he returned from Korea and mustered out from the service, he lived in Chico with his lovely wife Jane ever since. He also was an active member of Evangelical Free Church for over 60 years. He worked for Pacific Bell for 33 years. James is survived by his wife Jane and four children: Jamey, Brad, Laura Mindy; and their spouses/in-laws: Erin, Janie, and Rick. He was a wonderful grandfather to April, Sean, Megan, Aaron, and Jessica and a great-grandfather to Olivia and Nathaniel.

There will be a viewing, Friday, June 12th from 5pm to 7pm at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. The gravesite service will be Saturday, June 13th at 11am at the Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico. Memorial service will follow ( 1pm) at the the Evangelical Free Church in Chico. Condolences can be sent online at www.NBCFH.com
