ObituaryOct 9, 2013  OBITUARY: St. Albans – Michael A. Cantell, a lifelong area resident passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

Born at home, in St. Albans, on July 3, 1938, he was the son of the late Ernest M. Cantell and Eleanor M. (Hojaboom) Kretzenger.

Michael was 75 years old.

On April 10, 1962, in St. Albans, he married Judith Bedore, who survives him.

He was a 1956 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and then went to work for Central Vermont Railroad until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Boston Guided Missile Cruiser (CG1).Upon completion of 4 years in the Navy, he was discharged with the rank of BT3, he then enlisted in the United Sates Army and served for 2 years. Upon his honorable discharge he went to work for General Electric in Burlington. He then started an 18 year career as a meat cutter with the former A&P Market, Grand Union and then worked for Price Chopper. Michael always had a passion for truck driving, so during his retirement years he drove for Wildcat Construction.

Michael was a former member of St. Albans Lodge 1566, B.P.O.E and St. Albans Lodge 1090, L.O.O.M., enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and was an avid reader, especially about ancient history. His greatest enjoyment was being with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Judy, of St. Albans; their children, Deborah Thursh and her significant other, Louis Badger, of St. Albans, Christopher Michael Cantell of France, Richard Wallace Cantell and his wife, Joan, of Highgate and Teddy Cantell and his significant other, Becky Tipper, of Sheldon; his grandchildren, Joshua Thrush of Illinois, Jennifer, Jane and Ann Cantell of Boston; Mathew, Alexys and Dalton Cantell-Tipper of Sheldon and a great granddaughter, Haydi Thrush of Illinois. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Connie Price of Anchorage, Alaska and Kathy Ann Martin of Largo, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, James W. "Wally" Cantell and step-father, John Kretzenger.

At Michael's request he was cremated and a small family gathering will be held at a later date.
