A resident of Fort Lauderdale, FL for the past 10 years and of Littlefield Road, Scotland, CT for more than 40 years, she was born Sept 21, 1909 in Taunton, MA, daughter of the late Oscar Perkins Curtis and Adeline Bell Huntoon. Of Chippewa descent, she was known also as Princess Morningstar. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the American Thread Company in Willimantic, CT for 22 years where she worked as an inspector and order caser. She was the wife of Ralph Pisini (an active textile union officer at the same company) and mother to the late David Curtis Chapman of Atlanta, GA and step-son, Ralph Pisini of Bellingham, MA. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Hancock of Fort Lauderdale, her sisters: Cheryl Ann McGuffie of Atlanta, GA, and Susan Lancaster of Culloden, GA; and many beloved nieces and nephews. During her retirement years, Hazel was an active volunteer in Columbia, CT, at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, and for the city of Hollywood's Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts as a public relations assistant. She was twice honored as Volunteer of the Year by National Week of the Ocean. Hazel admired astronaut/aquanaut, M. Scott Carpenter for his ocean and space explorations and his mission to increase awareness of the ocean's plight and fragile beauty by lending his voice to National Week of the Ocean, a marine education program co-founded by her daugher, Cynthia, and son-in-law, Dane. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Week of the Ocean, Inc., P.O. Box 179, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33302.
