ObituaryOct 2, 2015  OBITUARY: GATESVILLE - Herbert Delano Rountree, 82, of 562 NC Hwy 37 South, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

Mr. Rountree was born in Gates County on July 28, 1933, and was the last surviving of 13 children born to the late Sornie Ralph, Sr. and Aurelia Stallings Rountree. Retired as the Senior Pulp Mill Foreman with Union Camp Corp. in Franklin, VA after 40 years of employment, he was a member and deacon of Gatesville Baptist Church, and a member and past president of the Gatesville Ruritan Club. Mr. Rountree had served his country with the US Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his son, Devitt Allan Rountree, and by a granddaughter, Samantha Terry.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Campbell Rountree; his daughter, Jeanette R. Stallings of Gatesville; his son, Donnie Wood Rountree and wife Vickey of Baytown, TX; three grandchildren, Joshua Freeman, Cole Stallings, and Annie Terry; and two great-grandsons, Samuel and Anthony.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray Brickhouse and the Rev. Gene Asbill. A private burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Saturday, or all other times at the residence.

Flowers are welcomed, or contributions in his memory may be made to either the building fund of Gatesville Baptist Church, or to the Gates County Rescue Squad, both in Gatesville, NC 27938.
