ObituarySep 1, 1909  OBITUARY: Nathaniel was the son of Ira Emery and Mercy Leighton. On Aug 22, 1862 he enlisted in the Army and on Sept 23 joined Company E of the New Hampshire 14th Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on July 8, 1865 at Savannah, Georgia.

He first married Sarah Ann (Blake) Wigglesworth of Rochester, NH on Dec 11, 1856 in Rochester. The History of Stark lists her name as Blake, but her name on her son John's birth certificate was Wigglesworth, so she possibly was married previously.

Their children were John, Albert, Charles, William, Louisa, and Frank and Sarah Merrill both born in April 1871.

His wife Sarah died of Typhoid Fever in October 1871. The daughter Sarah doesn't appear beyond her birth certificate so she may have died then too. The other two youngest children, Frank and Louisa, were adopted by Sarah's sister, Elizabeth Ann (Blake) Potter Woodward. Albert was taken in by Horace & Elizabeth Potter.

He married his 2nd wife, Mary Jane Damon, on July 4, 1872.

Their children were Mary Jane "Jennie", Bert M, Anna M, Louis E, and Lucy.

His wife, Mary Jane, died Sept 21, 1889 in Stark at 36 years old.

He married his 3rd wife, Mary D (Bissallon) Huntoon Foster on Dec 19, 1889 in Northumberland, NH. It was the third marriage for both. She was widowed from her 1st husband, Gideon D. Huntoon, and divorced from her 2nd husband, William Foster who she had married in 1887.

Mary died in 1903 and is buried with her 1st husband.

On April 19, 1904 in Groveton he married his 4th wife, Rosetta (Blodgett) Roberts, daughter of Charles Blodgett and Lucy Masters, and widow of Charles Henry Roberts. It was his 4th and her 2nd marriage and both were widowed.

Nate did a lot of hunting and fishing and also ran a farm in his spare time.
