ObituaryMar 13, 1764  OBITUARY: The fieldstone marker initialed "B A" could be Bethiah, widow of Samuel Ackley who died on 12 March 1764 [town record]. Her maiden name is listed as ADAMS from Colchester, CT. [per Ancestry] which may not be correct. She married Samuel Ackley early in 1703 [marriage record not found] as their first born was Samuel Ackley Jr. born on 8 December 1703 [town record]. In all, Samuel and Bethiah Ackley had ten children, all born in East Haddam.

Samuel Ackley Sr. died on 27 April 1745 [town record]. The bond on his estate was posted by his two sons: Simeon Ackley and Elijah Ackley. Samuel left no will and his estate was divided among the surviving heirs in February 1746-7. There are several unmarked graves next to that of Bethiah Ackley; among these could be that of her husband Samuel Ackley Sr.
