ObituaryApr 28, 1946  OBITUARY: John Conway Shiflett, 69, of Ivy Road, was hit on Route 250 by an automobile driven, according to police, by Horace Davis, of Meadowbrook Hills. He died instantly as a results of his injuries and Mr. Davis was arrested on the scene by State Police Officer W. H. Good., who was a witness to the accident. The Davis car was headed west on Route 250 and the trooper was headed east into the city, about 200 yards beyond the city limits, when the accident occurred. Mr. Davis is at liberty under a $1,000 bond today to await preliminary hearing Friday in Albemarle Trial Justice Court on charges of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Mr. Shiflett was a native of Albemarle County, son of the late John C. and Mary Shiflett. He married Miss Alice Shiflett, of the county, who survives, with two daughters, Mrs. Nora Johns, of the county and Mrs. Grace Glover, of Calverton. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. William Shiflett, of Boonesville, Mrs. Lucy Wyant, of Whitehall, and Mrs. Ida Gibson, of Owenville. The funeral will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from Mt. Moriah Church, at Whitehall, the services to be conducted by the pastor, the Rev. V. I. Ruckman assisted by the Rev. Bruce H. Wideman. The funeral party will leave the Preddy Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock. Note: We know that his mother was Nancy not Mary.
John and Alice worked on a poultry farm in Shiflett Hollow. A great grandson of Charles P. Shiflett stated that Sallie Belle and Eddie would talk about visiting their half brother/sister, Conway and Lucy Ann.
