ObituaryMar 7, 2018  OBITUARY: Alfred John Cappellini Sr., age 91, died peacefully on March 4, 2018, at his home in Weymouth. In his last days, he was surrounded and lovingly cared for by family and friends around the clock. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Concetta "Connie" (Paolucci) Cappellini; his sons, Alfred "Fred" Cappellini Jr. and his wife Michelle (DeLorey) Cappellini of Weymouth, and Steven Sr. of Hanson; and his daughters, Lynn Cappellini Sullivan of Framingham and Karen Cappellini and her partner Kyle McEwen of Boston. He was Grandpa to Steven Cappellini Jr. and his wife Kristie Cappellini, Cara Cappellini, Kristi Cappellini, and Scott Cappelliniand his wife Lauren McHugh, Jason Sullivan and his partner Ayla Walker, and Brianna Sullivan; and Grandpapa to Jack Alfred Cappellini and the great grandson on the way. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Nancy (Sinibaldi) Cappellini. He is survived by his sister, Linda (Cappellini) Pizzi and was predeceased by his sisters, Grace (Gaudreau) Davis, Myrtle (Gaudreau) Colclough and brothers Louis, Herbert, Ernest and Norman Gaudreau. Alfred was born in Quincy, October 20, 1926, to Lulu Irene (Cantell) and Alfred J. Cappellini Sr. He had a large extended family, many nieces, nephews, friends, and "pigeon buddies". During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Born a natural athlete, he favored hockey and played until the age of 75. Following in his fathers footsteps, "Cappy" was an avid and award-winning pigeon fancier and flyer. His son Steven Sr. and grandson Steven Jr. have followed in the family tradition. He was also a lifelong member of the Quincy Yacht Club. A mechanic by trade, he retired from the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 p.m. in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square), North Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. on Friday prior to the funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation will follow.
