ObituaryFeb 15, 2017  OBITUARY: FAIR HAVEN - Gail E. Thayer, 76, of Fair Haven, died Tuesday evening August 12, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born July 2, 1938, in Rutland, the daughter of Dale and Ethel (Noe) Erwin.

Mrs. Thayer received her nurse training at St. Joseph's Infant Home in Troy, N.Y., and had been employed at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home and as a home health aid for several years prior to becoming a receptionist at Rhapunzel's Hair Salon until her retirement.

She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.

Mrs. Thayer volunteered as a foster grandparent at VAC for many years.

She enjoyed crocheting, traveling and her daughter's cats, Bootsie and Mittens.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Marie Thayer, and her companion, Richard Wells, of Fair Haven, a son, George R. Thayer Jr., and his wife, Ruth, of Austin, Ark; two sisters: Muriel Frazier and her husband, Bill, of Whitehall, N.Y., and Cynthia Abatiell and her husband, Jim, of Rutland; three grandchildren: Joseph Sheldon, Jeremiah Sheldon and Bethany Niswonger and their spouses, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thayer was predeceased by her husband, George R. Thayer Sr., on August 12, 2002.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven.

Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.

A reception will follow at the Fair Haven American Legion.
