ObituaryOct 17, 1913  OBITUARY: Frank Bassett Tobey died Wednesday night, Oct. 15, 1913, at Lincoln, Nebraska, where he went some time ago for his health. The immediate cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage. The funeral will take place tomorrow from the residence of A. F. Shiverick, his nephew, who recently succeeded him as president of the Tobey Furniture company, and with whom he lived at 1310 Madison park. The burial will be at Graceland .

Mr. Tobey was born at Dennis, Cape Cod, Mass., Sept. 15, 1833, and prior to coming to Chicago in 1857 was prominently identified with the anti-slavery crusade and was one of the first leaders of the Republican party in his native town.

Arriving in Chicago, he entered the employ of his brother, Charles, the founder of the Tobey Furniture company, and a year later he became a stockholder. In 1870 he became a partner of F. Porter Thayer in the same line of business, and the firm subsequently became Tobey Bros. In 1875 the Tobey brothers became sole owners of the business, and his brother's death in 1888, Frank Bassett Tobey became president of the Tobey Furniture company. He was unmarried.
