| Obituary | Dec 26, 2007 | OBITUARY: WILLIAMSBURG - Ralph M. Rountree, 74, passed away Dec. 18, 2007. He was born Christmas Day 1932 in Sunbury, N.C. He was always the star on the top of the tree with a heart as wide as the branches. Ralph was a graduate of North Carolina State majoring in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years. During his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Ribbon. He retired from Naval Weapons Station where he worked as a mechanical engineer for 34 years. As a hobby, he enjoyed photo digital imagery and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also attended functions of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was an active member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Ica Rountree; and his brothers, Thurman Jr. and Harry Lee. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Jeannette W. Rountree; his son, James Douglas Rountree of Mechanicsville, Va; his daughter, Sharon Kay Wolf and her husband Troy of Newport News; his brother, Robert Rountree and wife Hazel of Burlington, N.C; and his sister, Evelyn Lassiter of Sunbury. A celebration of life service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Walnut Hills Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory in Williamsburg.
