Born on 29 November 1925 in, Ashville, NC. He attended Brownsville High School. He later joined the Navy and served until retirement in 1968. Upon returning to San Antonio he worked in insurance, carpet cleaning and repair and was one of the original pickers, back when they were called junkers. He had small parts in the movies Viva Max! and The Sugarland Express. It was said in the early 80's when a couple of northern usurpers tried to scale the walls and steal the flag at the Alamo, Mr. Dale arrived and promptly threw one of the yahoos off the rampart and had cornered the other when the police arrived to take the yankees into custody, thus making Mr. Dale the Last Man to Defend the Alamo and live to tell about it.

Mr. Dale is survived by his daughters Gail Dale of Jourdanton, Ella Mae Olinick of Universal City, and Penny (Mike) Brehm of Universal City, his sons Billy Jr. of Live Oak, James of Live Oak, Donald (Trisha) of Converse, his brother Bob of Cibolo, grandchildren Keith (Tracy) Melotte, Tina Melotte, Tom Melotte and Vicki (Dan) Reynard all of Green Bay, WI, Heather (Jeff) Womack, Schertz, Christina Olinick, Universal City, Michael (Brittany) Brehm, Katy, TX, John Brehm and Hannah Brehm, both of Universal City, and great grandaughter, that held a special place in his heart, Hope Womack. Also many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Malia Dale, parents Harold and Ella Mae Dale, sister Patty and daughter Linda Prevost. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral service will be conducted, 9:30 am Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel, with an interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
