ObituaryJul 11, 2008  OBITUARY: RICHFORD - Marcel Albert Martel, age 81, passed away Thursday morning, July 10, 2008, at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.

He was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Granby, Quebec Canada, the son of the late Joseph and Olida (Smith) Martel.

Marcel was employed at Sweat-Comings for over 25 years, retiring upon their closure. He was also a farmer for many years. Following his retirement he enjoyed mowing lawns and snow blowing sidewalks and driveways for his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed playing cards and playing solitaire on the computer. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford. Marcel married Lucille Laroche on Oct. 27, 1945; she pre-deceased him on Sept. 26, 1996.

Marcel is survived by his second wife, Margaret (Cleveland) Lumbra - Martel; two sons, Rene Martel and his wife, Rebbecca, of Berkshire, and Joseph Martel and his wife, Dianne Bessette, of Richford; two daughters, Mary Jane Laroche and her husband, Germain, of Arcade, N.Y., and Lorraine Bourassa and her husband, Richard, of Colchester; four grandchildren, Chantal Wiedmann and her husband, Rick, Linda Hurlburt and her husband, Chris, Renee Bourassa, and David Bourassa, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Romauld Martel of Plymouth, Mass; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Joseph and Olida Martel; his first wife, Lucille (Laroche) Martel, Marcel was predeceased by a grandson, Josepha Laroche; and his siblings, Maurice, Eugene and Florence.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2008, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Reverend Karl Hahr celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held at the convenience of the Family in Hillside Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.
