ObituaryJun 4, 2018  OBITUARY: Marion L. Black (Farnum), 90, of Keene and formerly of Swanzey and Winchester, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.

Marion was born the daughter of the late Birtress “Abby” (Tuttle) and Harry Farnum on Nov. 16, 1927, in Westminster West, Vt. She was educated in Grafton, Vt., where she attended local schools.

On March 3, 1959, she exchanged vows with Robert Black Sr. They were married in Richmond in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance. Sadly, Robert passed on Jan. 13, 1969, after nine years of marriage.

She worked at Lawrence Tannery in Winchester for many years as a machine operator. Before that she worked at Walliford Woolen Mill in Keene. Later in life she delivered The Keene Sentinel to her neighbors of the Cleveland Building in Keene.

Marion enjoyed life to the fullest. Even as a resident of Applewood she loved to poke fun and have fun with the other residents and staff. She was full of life. Time was spent playing bingo, watching the birds and feeding the wildlife. In her younger years she was known for going fishing.

Mrs. Black is survived by her eight children, Lee LaFountain of Lawton, Okla., Lucy Tiltson and her husband, Bruce, of Gilsum, Ginger Jewett and her husband, Roger, of Grayson, Ky., Susan LaClair and her husband, Ronald, of Marlborough, Joseph LaFountain and his wife, Judy, of Keene, and Arthur G. LaFountain Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Swanzey. Also, a brother, Michael F. Farnum; and a daughter in-law, Rachel LaFountain of Somersworth. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She is predeceased by her children, Andrew LaFountain, who passed in 2015, and Emma Jean Goodwin, who passed in 2014, two grandchildren, and a brother and sister.

The family would like to thank the staff at Applewood Care Center in Winchester for the wonderful care given to their mom.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 6, from 10 to 12 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in the family lot with Christian burial rights at Mountain View Cemetery, Route 32 S. Old Homestead Highway, Swanzey.
