ObituaryDec 17, 2010  OBITUARY: WEST LEBANON, N.H. - Robert M. Blackmer, 79, died Thursday, Dec. 16, at Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, surrounded by family and following a long battle with cancer.

He was born June 6, l931, in Randolph, Vt., the son of Mendell W. and Ruth (Mills) Blackmer.

He was raised at the Blackmer homestead in Stockbridge, Vt. He attended Ranney School in Stockbridge and graduated with the class of l949 from Whitcomb High in Bethel, Vt.

He started his banking career at the National White River Bank in Bethel, moved on to the Needham National Bank in Needham, Mass., for two years before starting at Dartmouth Savings Bank in Hanover, N.H., for 27 years. Upon retiring, he continued to work at Brookside Nursing home in Wilder as the activities director for five years and delivering flowers for Vermont Cut Flower for several years.

He was very fond of music. He participated in the South Royalton Church choir, was a member of the Vocalaireas, played piano with the Corn Huskers and sang for weddings and funerals. Most recently he played piano at Quail Hollow and Bugbee Senior Center.

He was past master and organist of White River Mason Lodge 90 for nearly 50 years, as well as a member and organist for the Hartford Elks Lodge #1541. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in White River, Vt., and an active participant with the church turkey suppers.

Survivors include his five children, Alice, Ellen, Joel, Peter and Seth. He is also survived by his wife Mary, of West Lebanon, and her children, David Dean of White River Jct., Vt., Michelle Rosenbeck of Wilder, Vt., and Daryl Dean of Hartford, Vt; a sister, Alice Sturk of Hampton, Va; a niece and a nephew; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Monday, Dec. 20, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
