Mr. Rountree was born in Gates County. The son of the late Sornie Ralph Sr. and Mrs. Aurelia Stallings Rountree, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church and the Watery Swamp Hunt Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Eure Rountree, he is survived by one daughter, Vivian Ann Barbee of Durham; one son, David R. Rountree and his wife, Sandra, of Gatesville; five sisters, Cleo Lassiter and Flora Carter, both of Sunbury, Carmen Hilton of Suffolk, Virginia Snipes of Portsmouth and Helen Marie Taylor of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Robert Lee Rountree of Silver Springs, Md., and Herbert Rountree of Gatesville; three grandchildren, Marty Lee Rountree and his wife, Christina, Christopher Rountree and his wife, Annie, and Kevin Rountree; three great-grandchildren, Susan Rountree, Austin Rountree and Hannah Rountree.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Lamar Eiland and the Rev. Gene Asbill. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his son, 025 Rountree Lane, Gatesville.
