ObituaryFeb 13, 2010  OBITUARY: SUNBURY - Frances Collins Rice, 87, of the 200 block of NC Highway 32 North, went to be with the Lord from her home Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Rice was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Alma Collins. A graduate of Louisburg College, she was a homemaker and had been a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church and its Women's Missionary Society for more than 65 years. The best mother one could ever ask for and a devoted Christian her entire life, she will be forever missed. In her last years with her struggle with Alzheimer's, she was blessed with the very best of home care provided by both her loyal husband and her faithful friend, Gloria Knight of Sunbury. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Army Lt. Frank Rice Jr. and brothers, Stewart, Hugh and Raymond Collins. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Frank L. Rice; her son, Charles Rice and wife June of Suffolk; her daughter, Joy Rice of Camden; four grandchildren, Craig and wife Ashley, Daina and husband John, all of Charleston, S.C., Lara and husband Stuart of New York, City and Erica of Richmond, Va; six great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Mike Collins of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and all other times at the home.
