ObituaryDec 30, 1954  OBITUARY: GORDON R. D. CANTELL, 48, a barber, died Dec. 29, 1954, in a fire which swept his second-floor apartment, over a blacksmith shop. Firemen found his charred body on the pantry floor.

Cantell and Robert Kittell, 12, of East Richford, a visitor, had fled the burning building but Cantell re-entered, presumably in an effort to save money recently acquired through sale of Enosburg property.

Kittell told officials a bedroom oil heater tank was leaking when he and Cantell retired for the night. The boy was not injured but suffered from shock and was taken to his parents’ home.
